Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

pretty sure kotor 1 and 2 both had mods. i know kotor 2 had a bunch of then that unlocked the content that was finished and left out of the released version of the game but was still on disc.
sweet, I will have to look that up. I never finished KOTOR on xbox. I would love to get through the whole game. I got stuck in the desert village.

Solid. Although KOTOR disappointed me. For some reason, the graphics are horrible on my machine (I loved the game on Xbox). Hopefully you have better luck. Maybe there is a graphics mod? I haven't looked into it.
I played KOTOR for about an hour, and couldn't keep playing the game in it's current state. All the models were stretched because of no widescreen support, and was having issues with the character not moving.
There is a mod for widescreen, but technically it's against Steams policy being you have to download a no-cd version of the game for it to even work. The version you get with steam is restricted or something.

Great list of games but where the heck will you find the time to play even 10% of them? Smilie Of course, I'm one to talk since I have tons of games as well. I guess it's all about having options.

Good question. Typically I stock up on great games I'm interested in during the big sales, and typically don't buy anything else throughout the year. So these games will at least last me through December's sale - possibly farther out unless there is something else worth having during the winter sale.

Based on the list, some are multi players game which I assume will play for weeks with friends. some like Dragon Age, Saints Row third, etc may take 30+ hours each. Even average one to two week per games, sounds like may take couple years unless you don't have to work and just stay home all days every day to play. Smilie And also don't try to replay any game to get all the possible endings. Smilie

lol, thats alot of games he bought there....maybe if it was half that list, I would say sure that will last him through the end of this year, and possibly into 2013....but I dunno about the full list Big Grin

There are also quite a few titles there that I purchased even though I've played them before, because I'm a Steam fan, like the service, and don't mind buying games at 75% that I loved but might not play right away. A few examples are Star Wars: KOTOR, The Bards Tale, Divine Divinity, YS Oath of Felghana, etc. Probably 40-50% of the games I picked up on sale were like this.

It's just too handy to have all of your games available for direct download all from one place. Otherwise for older games like Divine Divinity, Jade Empire, or Tomb Raider Legend I'd have to go find the discs, install them, patch them, etc. Steam is just so easy to use I don't mind tossing them $2-$4 for classic games that I love. I've got a free copy (via steam key) of Defense Grid for the first person to complete the following miniature scavenger hunt on their first attempt (no name spamming):

View the first 75 seconds of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOhfxvjNDQE

Provide the name of the person whose plea for more defense grid is the most likely to induce longstanding and potentially inescapable nightmares. There is only one correct answer, although I admit it's a closely contested category. Choose wisely. wave

Ken Rolston, that blinking was creepy.

The poor old guy with the ukulele wasn't exactly who I had in mind, but if there are no other takers by morning, I'll give it to ya anyway. Did you interpret the blinking as him batting his eyes at you, cause that would disturb a little I guess.

Congrats, you've won by default. It's not a pretty way to win, but a win is a win. I've PM'd you code, enjoy. This is one of my favorite strategy games. wave
