Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

Publisher Bundles:

Any reviews on these? I haven't heard of most of these games with the exception of Assassin's Creed...
You've never heard of Portal 2? Seriously?

Enjoy your Wii. Smilie

Does anyone know if Pack Deals will get any more discount? Really interested in the Bethesda one and won't mind paying even $50 for it.
I don't think Publisher packs ever show up as daily deals, so these prices are probably the lowest they'll hit for the duration of the sale.

How do flash deals work? Because in the OP, it says every 2 hours, but when I look at each game, it says 7 hours left, 9 hours left, etc....nowhere near 2 hours
My guess is the first few are spaced two hours apart so there will be a single new deal every two hours once the first of these start expiring with 4 flash deals active at any given moment...

Here's hoping for Arma II Combined Operation @ less than $20.

And Fallout: New Vegas @ 75% off game and all DLC.

And possibly Skyrim @ $30 or less?

Probably asking too much, and will probably all end up being flash deals while I'm at work, in which case, I will break things...very many things.

So packs generally stay at the same price till the end of the sale? So it makes more sense to buy a pack at the end of the sale while waiting for steep discounts on individual games, right?

For anyone looking at Crusader Kings II, there is an excellent Game of Thrones mod out for it (just google it... can't link it as I am at work). Its very well done and is the only reason I bought the game to begin with. They are still adding to it as well.

Well...here we go! Here's hoping that there is a nice surprise at the end...like Torchlight 2 releasing the final day or something...

Yeah, that would be a good strategy if you only really want a handful of games in the pack. With the Bethesda pack in particular, you might see Skyrim for 50% off ($30) and Fallout New Vegas plus DLC for 75% off. If you want everything in the pack, though, it might be cheaper in the end to get the pack.

ahh, okay that makes more sense....I was thinking all four flash deals would get replaced at 12PM PST....which is 2 hours after going live after the initial 10AM PST front page

I guess I'll come back at 4PM PST for Deus Ex HR to get replaced with something else

Please advise. I have been wanting to pickup the Dragon Age games for some time, and they are 50% from what I can tell. Origins Ultimate which includes add ons and Awakening is $14.99 until 7/23. So if I understand the "rules" the OP posted, I sie and wait until last day of sale or until it comes up as a Daily Deal? I was looking, and I could not find as part a catalog/pack deal, unless I missed. Thanks.

Yes. Wait for either
A. Daily deal (which i can almost guarantee there will be for this game/series of games)
B. Pay the current reduced price - however, the current price is NOT the best price that the game has been at, so i'm fairly certain you can/could get it elsewhere regardless.

Heads up: Pixeljunk Eden is only $2 (80% off). Not a daily deal, but I wouldn't expect it to get any lower than that anyways. This is one of those situations where it's probably safe to buy the game now without fear of it getting cheaper.
