Deal Details

It's here! Are your wallets ready for the abuse? Here's hoping there are great deals to be had here. I'll update this thread with sales and deals.

Click here for sale's frontpage: http://store.steampowered.com/

Quick primer for the newcomers:

  • Daily Deals: Each day, new daily deals appear at 10AM PST and expires the next day at 10PM
  • Flash Deals: At any given time, there will be 4 deals that won't last long (several hours). When one expires, another replaces it.
  • Community Vote Deals: You get to vote on what the next deal is. Every 8 hours.
  • Deals spanning the entire event: Various games and bundles are on sale for the entire sale, however play it smart and only buy a game if it's a daily deal (when the price is lower). Resort to buying what doesn't go on sale as a daily deal at the end of the sale.
Steam Sale Commandments:
  • Thou shalt not purchase any individual title unless it is a daily/flash/community deal. Wait until the end to buy otherwise.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to jump on too-good-to-be-true deals as there have been price mistakes in the past sales. Price mistakes are honored.
  • Thou shalt not hesitate to dip into the kids' college funds to buy these games
  • Thou shalt live off of ramen until the end of the sale
====Current Deals====
Remember, never buy a game unless it's a daily/flash/community deal. If it never shows up as a daily/flash/community deal, go ahead and buy it on sale at the last minute.

7/22 Daily Deals (ends 10PM 7/23):
Flash Deals:
When a flash deal ends, another begins...
Community Vote Deal:
A new poll and deal every 8 hours...

====Event-wide Deals (July 12th - 23rd)====
I cannot express this enough: only buy games if it is a daily/flash/community deal. Resort to purchasing on-sale games at the last minute if it never appears as a daily deal.

Individual Titles:
A subjective listing of some cheap/good games that I believe are already at their lowest. Might as well buy these whenever. Please do your own research first before buying!

Publisher Bundles:

Opinion on Call of Duty Black Ops? Worth the $20 price? Thank you!

So frustrated. . .I finally build a PC that can handle anything I can throw at it (i5-3570K + ATI HD7850). . .coming from a 6 year old AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ so you can imagine. . .can't stop spending. . .BUT. . .

The one game I have been wanting was Dragon Age Origins Ultimate and they only marked down 50%. I don't want to purchase from anywhere but Steam, Amazon or Origin though. . .why is it not going to 75% off! I keep seeing all these repeated sales with the flash sales. . .wth!

To frustrate matters worse, I bought it for the Mac yesterday for $10 so sure. . .wife gets to play, but me. . .nope. . .I am sitting and waiting for a stupid $7 in savings. . .It's been this cheap in the past, so why oh why!
haha be patient, was waiting for a while to see a 75% on New Vegas Ultimate and it finally showed for a day. ended up buying a whole bunch of cheapies while I was waiting.

Any opinions on Sins of a Solar Empire Trinity? It's only $5 right now and seems to be pretty well reviewed. I played GalCiv awhile back and liked it, though that was more turn-based strategy.
You will like it. It is Real-Time but the default speed (1x) is very slow and should be good for anyone no matter how slow they are, and there are - and + time buttons to speed it up to 2x, 4x, 6x, or 8x, and then back down at any time in the game if it ends up being too slow.

Hmm... had no problems.... of course I acquired the maximumTyphoon Augmentation early. Wink
As you said, you don't have the patience to play as a stealth/pacificst character. That's the biggest problem with the boss battles. They force stealth characters to go into head-to-head battle. It's not in keeping with the gameplay flexibility of the rest of the game, or the rest of the game series for that matter. If you're playing the game like a traditional FPS where you kill everything that's in your way, the boss battles are no big deal.

Pretty much every review mentioned this as the one big flaw in an otherwise excellent game, too.

Everything that hit 75%

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Miloz
If I remember correctly, not only the % off but they actually drop the retail price for older games. So in couple years, the same game that's 75% can be even cheaper since the retail price, for example, can drop from $49.99 to $19.99. Sot 75% of $49.99 and 75% of $19.99 is big different. Either that or they may have a "Game of the Year" Edition or Collection, etc the same price as stand alone version. Doesn't make sense to buy everything that hit 75% if you are not going to play it until a year later. Smilie

For someone like him, a couple of dollars here and there doesn't matter. What he cares more about is having a massive gaming library.

It's no different than most slickdealers who buy crap they really don't need ... But they do anyway.

I'm rather embarrassed by my old hardware. I have 2 PCs either of which I could upgrade:

#1
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (socket 939)
Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC 256 MB PCI-E video card

#2
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice) (socket 939)
ECS RX480-A socket 939 motherboard
PNY Verto Geforce 6600 256 MB PCI-E video card

I managed to get a PNY Verto GeForce GT 430 1 GB DDR3 video card for $15 at Staples which I haven't tried yet. I was told it should be an improvement on my current cards, but I'm told it won't help much because my CPUs are so slow. Even though I don't have a DDR3 mobo yet, I bought some when I saw a deal (it was Kingston 4 GB PC3-12800 (DDR3 1600) Hyper X Blu).

So I'm pretty sure I need to replace all 3 parts. I just want to know the best combination (brands and model numbers) for under $250 (if such a combo exists) that will let me play all of the current games so I don't have to keep passing on these great Steam deals.
I was in a very similar situation computer wise to you less than a year ago.
You are in luck because Quad Core AMD Phenom II CPU and AMD 970 motherboard combos are under $150 Newegg or at Microcenter. Your problem is your GT 430 video card. It's not going to play most 3D intensive games with all the settings at or near their highest levels if at all.

Sadly, now's not the best time for $50 to $100 graphics card deals. But to play many of the current games at near or at their higher settings, your best bet is probably something in the range of a Radeon HD 5750, 5770, 6750, 6770, 7750 or 7770 card. Right now, recent nvidia card models are not real competitive in this sub-$100 range price/performance wise. But definitely look for a card that uses DDR5 memory, not DDR3.

Personally I ended up with a AMD 955 Phenom II CPU and Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard for around $210 total. I was able to get a deal on a AR deal on a Nvidia GTX 460 1 GB DDR5 for about $100. This setup allows me to play most all the Xbox 360 PC ported games on their highest settings at 1680x1050 resolution at usually around 60 fps.

After you mentioned it I went back and checked the "Steam Achievements" definitions. The Pacifist (Stealth?) achievement:

Pacifist
Complete Deus Ex: Human Revolution without anyone dying by your hand. (Boss fights do not count.)

But if you are referring to a pure stealth game I can't see how that would be possible from what I have played so far.
