Defragging

I haven't use that program, but I would 'guess' that if the machine has been in production for a year or two and a defrag never run -- it would at first flag that it would take quite a while -- especially if no cleaning out of temp files, temp internet files, cookies, cashe was done previous to the defrag.

Get up to date with maintenance first and run it first before the scheduled defrag is done. If you don't get rid of the junk files first, you aren't really doing anything as far as maintenance.

How would I test the HD, unsure of this and appreciate any help.

Also did turn off Avast and ran the Defraggler. Ended up taking only 2 1/2 hours.
Do not really like thus new program because when finished it did not say finished. Just came back up to if you wanted to analyze again. But I watched it on and off up to 89% done so pretty sure it finished correctly. When analyzed just after it said drive was 6% fragmented instead of the original 13%. Does this sound normal

As mentioned, I don't know the program, but 2 1/2 hours does sound extreme for any defragger, given your circumstances.

The estimator could be completely wrong, try running it and see how long it actually takes.
