Yayyy my 1st 3d tv
I drove like the devil was on my heels to the Fry's @ City of Industry, CA at 5pm Saturday, July 14. When I got there, the sales associate told me the $499 deal was a Toshiba and was sold out. I told him I read online that it was an LG 47CM565. He showed me the 2 LG's left but the price was $599. I told him that that the online price that I saw for $499 was for the LG 47CM565. He said that was probably the frys.com price and I had to go home to order it online because it was only showing at $999 at the store computer. After about 5 minutes of grovelling about how far I've driven to get there (about 10 miles actually ), he finally conferred with another associate and printed out a checkout sheet for $499 for me. THANX OP for this great deal.

kidslick, receipt please?
redact if you must, but if they can find the transaction, I might go back.I'm going to break in the 51" Samsung I got today. I was just reading this thread at Target when I decided to scurry on over to Frys. their online order kept kicking me out on some vague error. Whatever... I think the sale for this thread ended yesterday. 561 otd. 499+ pn51e490 10+ ca recycling extortion fee 4.99+ hdmi cable sku 7008511 4.99+ hdmi cable sku 7008511 42.63 8.375% local and state gobberment extortion fees 561.61. |

Thanks kidslick. repped. So I returned the 51" in hopes of buying the 50" 1080p 600hz plasma. Backfired big time. OOS
I was too disgusted to bother buying the same 51" again, so I chased my tail at BB only to lose my mind w/no facts at price matching time. It's just not my day today. :`( Target and Walmart don't carry the 50" LG plasma locally.

Hope This Helps
After stumbling upon this deal, I went through all the reviews, features and specs I can find and finally pulled the trigger after reading a very helpful review on Amazon by Mike. My OTD price was $499+$10+tax=$553 in Cali. I've owned it for 5-6 days and must say am very impressed with the picture quality for that price. Transporting, unpacking, assembling and setting up was a breeze. I did everything myself without breaking a sweat. I didn't care much for the manual, which wasn't as informative of the advanced settings as I had hoped. Luckily Uncle Google has been quite helpful. ![]() I haven't watched a lot of sports or played a lot of games on it yet but I have not noticed any major motion blur or jerkiness watching action movies on blu-ray, 2D, 2D->3D, or downloaded side-by-side 3D movies thus far. I don't know if its because I have no way of comparing it to 120Hz like I used to on my JVC or if its because LG has a better response rate or better processing of 60Hz. But the non-jerkiness, which was my primary concern, was definitely a determining factor for me to keep this TV. I can see adequate detail in dark scenes without even having to adjust anything on all the 3 preset modes I've used so far - Intelligent Sensor (mostly daytime), Cinema Mode (mostly nightime) & Standard. I haven't noticed any washed out blacks or greyed black bars using any of the above presets so far either. But I'll be tinkering with the Picture Wizard II and the two ISFccc options this coming weekend to see if I can get even better results. My personal preference for most TVs has always been Cinema Mode with all the enhanced bells and whistles stuff OFF including Energy Saving mode and lowering the yellow tint just a smidge via white balance and properly calibrating the brightness and contrast levels. My TV viewing is done mostly after sundown in a low to medium-lit living room. I pause quite a bit during movies so the energy saving button located conveniently at the top right corner of the remote works out great for me for turning the screen display off with a couple of presses without having to turn the TV off. I also like the "Just Scan" (no overscan) mode. This LG has 2x10 watts speakers and they face downwards. IMHO facing downwards is better than rear facing so I'm cool with it. Although I would have preferred the speakers to be 2x20 watts and forward facing like the JVC. I like the Clear Voice II feature, which I keep at 3 (max. 6 = overkill) and Auto Volume feature for certain movies with a wide audio range or for late night watching. Otherwise, turning up the bass in addition to turning on infinite surround is enough for me to enjoy the audio without it sounding "tinny" or "pipey" enough to justify purchasing a sound bar. I haven't had a chance to play any 3D blu-ray movies yet but I do enjoy the 2D->3D feature so far with a the depth set at 20 (max.) and the viewpoint set to 0. I've tried playing a couple of DL'ed side-by-side (SBS) 3D movies via the USB port with amazing results . I'm going to purchase another USB flash drive ($11 for 32GB is the best price I see on SD presently) and format it to NTFS so I can DL bigger and better quality SBS 3D movies since this is the feature I relish the most thus far. ![]() My A/C is a little noisy so I prefer turning on subtitles rather than upping the volume during hot summer late nights. I use to have to soft-merge subtitles with movie files to play on my Sony blu-ray USB port. The USB port on the LG is able to play .srt subtitles directly so that saves me quite a bit of time. It also allows changes to the size and position which is quite nifty. I wasn't looking for a wi-fi HDTV with internet apps as my $60-$50(sony cc)=$10 Sony BDP-S580 3D Blu-ray Disc Player (thanx again SD ) already has all that stuff. The $499 price tag definitely made a huge difference for me because the SquareTrade warranty from CostCo is $30/3yrs for TVs under $500 and $60 for TVs $501-1000. Anyhoo these are just some of features of the LG 47CM565 that I find appealing after toying with it for 5-6 days. Bear in mind that these are only my personal opinions. YMMV and all that. Other than that, I pretty much agree with everything on the review on Amazon by Mike. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this TV a 9 for the quality/features/price. The 1 point is reserved for in case I find a really, really good reason to exchange it for the LG 47LM6200 120Hz LED 3D SmartTV $699 @ Fry's. Having done the math, it will actually cost me $250 ($200+$30squaretrade+$20tax) more to upgrade to LED + 120Hz + 4 more 3D glasses so I am pretty sure I'll be passing. As OP mentioned, this Fry's deal has been ongoing for the last two weekends so there's a great chance it will pop up again this weekend or sometime soon. After "test driving" this TV, I would definitely say that $599 is still a righteous deal for this TV. However, if its just $100 more and not $250 more as in my case, I would most likely go for the LG 47LM6200 120Hz LED 3D SmartTV $699 @ Fry's (or at least try my darndest to get Amazon to PM). IMHO $100 more for LED + 120Hz + 4 more 3D glasses + a smattering of other features (check out the specs on the LG site) is a helluva deal.

Since I have a local Fry's with both TVs in stock at $499 or $699, it seems a little tough to pay $200 more just for a "smart TV". If I were to get the cheaper LG 47CM565, what is the cheapest add-on device (i.e. media box or BD player) I could buy that will let me use Netflix, Amazon instant video, Vudu, or any of those other services with the 47CM565?

I also opted for the non-smart as I will just be hooking up my PC or Laptop if I need to stream anything to the TV. The difference of $200 wasn't worth it for me. I should be getting the TV next Friday as shipping takes a while but am quite excited. $560 for this TV, seems like you can't really go wrong. This is around the price Walmart sells its lower end 46" TVs for. I tried to Price Match with TD. They said it's lower than their acquisition price so they aren't able to PM it. Was worth a shot. BUT, one big benefit on thie 47" 3D Toshiba model is that includes a wireless QWERTY keyboard, an item that can cost upto $100 extra on some TVs. It did help in the navigation, but I couldn't figure out why the sound wasn't working on the display model & thus couldn't test it. So you can gage my listening tolerance...my old 40" Toshiba's sound is acceptable, but I use external speakers on movies. I can listin to a movie without external speakers on the LG. Westinghouse TV sound gives me headaches after a minute and I can barely tolerate sound from a Vizio. The Samsung Smart TV's sound & picture was amazing....almost lifelike, but so was the price. Nothing seemed close to it. On a bang for buck, this 3D LG (1/2 off) or the 3D Toshiba 47" (over 1/2 off) are both great deals from a pricing standpoint but we went went with the LG and are extremely happy with with. The picture is excellent and even small print in commercials is readable & very sharp. We decided to get buy a smart 3D bluray player & hook it up to the TV for the smart features. We didn't want to spend the extra $200 because there's always something coming out down the road. OLED is supposed to come out soon & then 4K Super HDTV in a few more years. I doubt we'll own this LG more than couple of years due to future technology changes. It will likely be your own personal decision. Last edited by dealfinder5; 07-22-2012 at 05:49 PM.. |
