Deal Details

Just picked up ten of these really nice shelving units at Coscto in CA for $40 each plus tax. My receipt shows them as normally $64 each which is still a great price for these. They currently have an automatic discount of $24 each if your store carries these.

The coupon says limit 5 so I took two trips. They were pretty heavy at 120lbs each so I don't think my SUV would have handled the 1200 lbs anyway!

yeah when I was checking the person working the register said they were selling like crazy. I got ten of the thirteen they had out on display, not sure if they had any more in stock in the back. At least the deal goes for a couple weeks if they go out of stock.

... and if they run out of stock, you can always get a rain check!

Costco sometimes offers rainchecks - sometimes not. Just a FYI, the same deal is running on this side of the country in Orlando. (I love these shelves - just wish they had wheels, LOL!)

Most likely a particle board. Any self assembly product I ever bought that had defects would send replacement pieces if you call the company's number in the owner's manual. I had a couple boards chipped badly on my gorilla shelves and received news ones promptly. If you get some busted ones, just leave the top shelves off until the replacements come.

Great deal except I would prefer 24" wide shelves instead of 18" and I don't have a Costco membership. 1000 lbs. per shelf is nice, but expect some hefty deflection in the board at that load.

It's a laminated particle board... maybe 3/8" thick? It's really sturdy and quite well designed imo. This thing beats out any other shelf system in its size by a large margin and is cheaper pre-discount. The $off is just an added bonus. (I'm not sure why they need a promotion, these seem to sell quite well at the normal price..)

Oh, and the display model I saw at Costco today was also assembled wrong so maybe yours was due to something similar (or it was already damaged so they decide to make it the floor model.) The design is good if assembled correctly, but apparently it's not idiot proof...

Or if you're impatient you could always buy an extra one and do the exchange yourself. Costco's return policy is pretty solid.

no wonder, I saw someone loading 5x (or even more?) of these shelves at my local costco!

I have several of these myself, and on two of them I am pushing the limits on load weight, and no flex at all, these things are SOLID. They are also adjustable and modular so you can build two side by side and make a huge work bench, etc. These things are awesome. I bought them for 50 for the first and 55 for the last two (normal price went up) and thought THAT was a steal!!! This is an UBER slick deal IMO, no way you can get a work bench this solid for anywhere near this price that I have ever seen. Even buying the lumber and building it yourself wouldn't be this cheap (although that one would probably be better from an ergonomics perspective since it would be custom made to your work space). Mine are all the 18" and at first I only bought 1 because of that, but 18" works just fine, and fits most of those rubbermaid storage containers perfectly (like the $3 ones that were on sale at sears). I am gonna have to look for some more room, can never have enough shelving Smilie.

For those that are interested in these for storing smaller items, the clear storage containers with black lids fit perfectly in these and make the storage that much easier. I picked up a large number of those at Costco when they were $5 awhile ago but I think they are still relatively cheap at $6 or $7.
