Thread Details

So we went to Costco today in pursuit of a Vitamix Blender. My research has led me to the conclusion that Vitamix is the blender I wanted to get so we went to a demo to watch it perform and to buy at a discount. The blender being demonstrated was the new 6300. Price was $499. Price on the Vitamix website is $100 more. I had called the store earlier and asked what price they were being sold for and was told they had them for 374. So looking around I found on the shelves away from the demonstration they were selling the 5200 for $125 cheaper. The new one has a pulse switch and pre-set settings, which is nice, but not nice enough for 100 bucks plus more. So if your looking for one, this is about the best price for new I could find.

As a side note, I also went to Wegmans for the demo they were having. Interesting fact: They were demoing the 5200 and selling them @ 499. Apparently Costco has a deal with Vitamix, thus they have a much better deal!!
And yes, went to both places today and this is the deals I found. It does pay to do your homework!! Unbelievable that those walking out of Wegmans could buy the same machine cheaper at Costco, and even if they weren't a member, they could become one and still have saved money!!

Vitamix has the "stick" thingy you can move the stuff around while the food is being horse pounded. Also vitamix has been around longer. I saw blendtec costco thread for 329. I wish vitamix would lower the price

had mine 5200 for 6-7 years now, using it 4-5 times/week to make smoothies. Best purchase ever, and quality is impeccable. Good price!

I soooooooooooooooooooo wish I had a Costco membership or could buy one of these buy using a friends. I don't know anyone with a membership because the nearest Costco is in the Cleveland area~ 60 miles away. I want a Vitamix so bad, I can taste it.

Stick thingy = damper Wink

My bro tested out the vitamix and blendtec for several weeks. He ended up with the vitamix because of the damper. The blendtec's vortex just wasn't good enough to pull large chunks of smoothies down to blend them.

i've owned both, and returned the blendtec and kept the vitamix. i think vitamix is a much better blender, although i like the shape of the blendtec jar more.

Most Costco's don't stock the Vitamix blenders unless there's a roadshow, so you may make a trip and not even find one. I ended up pulling the trigger on a refurb from their website, $329 shipped if you find a free shipping code online. I'm not too hung up on refurbs and this one came looking new, with the recipe book and dvd. It was supposed to come with the "newer" soft grip handle jar, but instead received the old plain handle. I sent a quick email to CS, and my response was, we'll ship you a new jar and blade wrench in a day or two. Great customer service!

We use ours on average 2-3 times a day, every day and it is well worth the price.

Best breakfast recipe: Hot Oatmeal Smoothie; 1/2c almond/soy milk, 2 tbs Steele cut/old fashion oats, 1 cup berries/fruit, 1 oz walnuts, 1 tbs raisins, 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Run for 2-4 mins. Hot Smoothie!

I have a "Magic Bullet". Is this the same quality? Are they as easy to clean as the Magic Bullet? I just call my Costco in Bellingham, WA to verify the price and it is indeed $374.99. If this thing is somehow better than the Magic Bullet, I'm going to have to buy one.

The Magic Bullet is the Ferrari... right? It's hard to imagine something better than this. It even grates Parmesan Cheese!

You use the oats raw? That sounds pretty awesome. Ever make green smoothies?

The vitamix is on my wishlist of things I don't need but would love to have. I know I'd use it all the time. Smoothies are so fun!!

Yep, raw oats. Definitely better than the old slow boil method. Green smoothies! Haven't gone crazy with them, but adding spinach to anything is a great way to sneak it in.

...and by damper, i'm sure you meant 'tamper'. Stick Out Tongue

Most things you don't need the stick thingy, but I think having the ability to use it gives it a leg up when you've jammed the thing full of veggies.
