I'd look for dog foods that are mainly meat based. Dogs don't need filler ingredients, just makes them poo more. It sounds like the Super 5 Large Breed is more geared towards feeding them cheaply.

If you like the wellness brand, wellness core does well. I find Taste of The Wild to be a very good Dog Food for the price. Either way you could do much worse than wellness.

This is actually a pretty good dog food. The grains in it are high-er quality than a lot of other dog foods and the first few ingredients are Deboned Chicken, Deboned Whitefish, Chicken Meal.

Much better than the supermarket dog foods out there.

My post wasn't meant to be a recommendation, just an FYI of the price drop if you currently feed your dog this particular brand. I know people have their opinions on what is good/bad, etc.

Agree with you there. A step above Iams/Purina etc... but not as good as brands like Orijen.

Dogfoodanalysis.com has good reviews with levels (ranked with stars) of various dog foods.

I think since wellness started doing commercials, they really jacked up their prices. There are a lot of foods on the market with similar ingredients for a lot less, for example Healthwise (costs $35-37 at a local feed store here)

I recently switched my dogs from Taste of the Wild, to Nutri-source due to recalls.
Its actually cheaper, I pay $43 for 30 lbs

The problem with healthwise, is that the 2 ingredients RIGHT after the chicken meal is oatmeal and brown rice. This means that there could potentially be more grain in there than meat (i.e. each one of the oatmeal and brown rice is less the chicken meal, but combined make up more).

The price may be high but it is still a very high quality dog food. If you feed something similiar, it wouldnt' be a bad idea to buy a couple bags; shelf-life is over a year.
