Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa - 50K points after spending $1000 in first three months

These points are only good for travel? I've got 80,000+ on AA, 50,000+ on Alaskan, 50,000+ on Virgin... have no idea what the heck to do with them. I search international fairs and get nothing to pop up with reward miles or the fees come out to some ridiculous $700+ which I can get an entire round trip ticket for without the use of miles. If you travel domestic, that's about all you can use these points for?

I recently canceled my card from last year, wondering how soon, if possible, i can reapply

and of course, qualify for the bonus 50k.

If your FR went smoothly, I don't see why not. I was hit w/ 2 the last 4 yrs. The most recent 1 was last Aug for the Bus gold reward card.

Got the AMEX Bus Delta card March of this yr.

Hotels, car rentals and much more. Hoping SW will offer 20% discount on GCs again
(got a bunch of Amazon) but doubtful since was launch of their reward program.

Luv AA since can use the miles to fly to Vietnam on Cathay. 70K for economy, 110k for bus, and 135k for 1st. I was able to book 3 1st to SGN from SFO for this Dec but took about 2 wks of calling and being flexible w/ the dates ('cuz wanted arrival/departure on weekends). Also, you can use the miles to fly on Hawaiian.

Don't know 'bout the last 2, but you could use Alaskan for Hawaii and, if you meant Virgin Atlantic, you could convert to Hilton at a 1:2.

How much fuel+fees did you pay for the Vietnam flight? You could only do it over the phone? Is that the key. I couldn't get anything online to Thailand, Japan, Australia, etc. As for the Hilton rewards, I don't see them as very useful either but I guess I have no choice but to convert them as the Virgin Atlantic points are worthless.

Chase cards are pretty much NON-churnable. Which means that if you got the bonus once, you won't get it again...Not unless you're applying after 2-3 years.

MillionMileSecrets claims that his girlfriend got the bonus points on her BA card even though she had it once before...but she applied for it after 2 years...FT has people who applied for the PriorityPlus card and didn't get the bonus, because they got it once before.

So...it's safe to assume that you can't churn them...not unless you cancelled them more than 24 months ago and that too is suspect.

I don't have the result yet. I've been told that at most, I'll just get a spend limit, which is okay by me..because the bonus offer on that card is 100k points!

Second, if i close card within 30 days, doesnt annual fee get refunded?

i cancelled my personal southwest last week and was approved instantly for a business plus card. I have a business card with them currently. I sure hope to get the bonus

I don't cancel right away and kill the goose. It's a goose worth keeping alive to me. I wait 6-11 months.

FR is a Financial Review that is done by AMEX. It involves them putting your account on hold. Nothing can be charged to it. Then you have to fill in forms and fax it to them. They pull your Tax return from the IRS. Look at your income and make a decision as to
A. cancel your card
B. give you a spending limit, if you were originally had a charge card
C. do nothing.


It's a Pain in the effin' Ass...and puts things on hold until they make a decision.
Nobody knows for sure what triggers it. Sometimes making huge transactions can trigger it. Maybe not making any, can trigger it. And sometimes it could just be a random thing.

Which card? The business card? Why would you want to cancel it after applying for it? Anyway, if you cancel it that fast, you will get a prorated refund of the annual fee. BUT if you're planning on receiving the bonus points and then cancelling, I can assure you that it's a bad idea. Chase can take those points back or/and blacklist you from signing up again for any Chase cards.
