Ft Myers Car rental in Sept

Curious about rates as well

Have you tried BJ's or Costco -- if you have a membership, they discount and have coupons as well.

Usually I find reasonable rates with BJs, but $700+ for two weeks for a midsize car is just plain ridiculous. Either there is some type of price fixing going on in Ft Myers, or the car rental companies don't care if their cars sit unused. Either that or the people flying into that airport have no idea of the value of a dollar.

When the best I can find after digging is $400 for two weeks, more than double what I paid a year ago and double what I have paid for the last three years, something smells funny!

These rates are ridiculous. Did you think about maybe calling the rental place directly and asking them why they are so high? The only other thing I can think of is priceline, which I am always too afraid to rent a car from but maybe start throwing out some lowball offers to them and see if anyone accepts. I am having a similar problem in Miami, and I only need the car for one day.

Found this NYT article [nytimes.com] yesterday that explains why the rates have been soaring the past couple of years. I'd been struggling to find a decent rate for my own vacation.

A lot of rental car companies publish coupons valid only for 1-2 months. You might have better luck closer to your travel date. I found a great rate for my rental at hotwire.com and see that for your rental it is $370 for an Economy. You might want to try to bid on Priceline to see if you can get a better deal. Of course, with Priceline and Hotwire you pay upfront.

Was checking rates for my own rental on a couple of websites and thought of trying them out for your dates too.

It seems the rate on hotwire.com for your rental has dropped to $253 for an Economy car, right in the range you typically spend.
