Hope this isn't a silly question, as I've never used Sprint. I got the link to work fine, but when I try to add the phone I want to my cart, it wants me to enter my Sprint account number, which of course, I don't have. Is there something special I should be doing, being a new customer?

Thanks.

however it will be at least two years before we get LTE in my area. But I do get Sprint 4G WiMax coverage
How do you know when your area will get LTE or even 4G WiMax (which I still don't have)? Is there somewhere on the web site to check?

TIA

I'd hate to get locked into a 4G device for the next 2 years knowing that Sprint is due to go 4G LTE soon.
Soon? Most major markets will not see LTE service until spring of 2013. They are only doing a few test cities until at least the fall anyways. These are the only cities that will see LTE until then. Info via the Sprint.com Community forums.

Atlanta, GA
Athens, GA
Calhoun, GA
Carrollton, GA
Newnan, GA
Rome, GA
Dallas, TX
Fort Worth, TX
Granbury-Hood County, TX
Houston, TX
Huntsville, TX
San Antonio, TX
Waco, TX
Kansas City, MO-KS
St. Joseph, MO

If you live in a 4g market now.. go for it. After a year you will get the year upgrade credit and could use that for a new LTE device then and sell your old one online to pay some of the difference.

And still paying $10/month for premium data (or whatever it is called). I feel your pain. I'm not in a big city but our 4G clearwire coverage is spotty at best.
I fly through Detroit airport a lot.

I could have sworn that 10 months ago I got WiMax there, but I don't now. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it seemed so strange that they would downgrade their coverage.

Have Touch Pro. Run XDandroid on it some. Would like to pick up the $49 galaxy nexus but not sure about activating yet since I rely on the Touch Pro for some stuff.

Can I get the deal without activating the nexus right away? Seems like I recall reading that they will charge your acct if you don't activate the new phone.
I believe that when you buy through Amazon/Wirefly/other places with extra deals, you must activate the phone and keep it active for x number of months. It's in the fine print of the deal. When you buy directly through Sprint, you can do whatever you want with the phone. You can switch to any phone any time, although you may need to call to switch from a 4g phone to a TP2. At least I do, but I'm on a legacy plan.

Can you get a plan with these smartphones through Sprint, but just get calling and text? Avoid the dataplan altogether?

I know, "Why would you do that?"... but I'd just like a nice new phone where I could use notepad and have a nice screen, etc.... but avoid the outrageous data plans Sprint has...

No, all their smartphones, EVO 4G LTE down to their Blackberry Curve 9930 require data plans. 4g phones require a 10$ premium as well. Kinda dumb, but I can't really talk because I'm with Verizon and get charged way more than I should, but Sprint kicked me off the $30 SERO plan. Anyways, yeah. I'd go for Virgin Mobile, from what I know, they run off Sprints towers. They also have the iPhone 4 & 4s.Wink

Wow, great deal thanks.

Note: I had to copy and paste the web address. Clicking on it brought me to some other page where the phones were full price.

Landing page at: http://shop2.sprint.com/NASApp/on...9centoffer

Now states:
"Now is the time to upgrade your push-to-talk device
We're phasing out the Nextel National Network in 2013, so now is the time to upgrade to the next generation of push-to-talk technology and get great pricing on a new phone.

Note: this aisle is only for Sprint customers with Nextel devices."

For Sprint users out there.

I have an iPhone 4 with Sprint. The 3G network is terribly slow (I'm constantly getting that little white circle as my data speed). Will switching to a 4G device improve my network speed?

I'm thinking about ditching the iPhone and picking up a 4G device.

Thanks

I wonder if the galaxy nexus comes with the $50 google wallet credit that sprint is offering on the main webpage. That would be super slick!!

That's actually a complicated question, since Sprint has two different 4g networks right now (and the phones are on one or the other, never both)... it would probably be easiest if you tell us what city you are in, and I am sure someone here can tell you which 4g network, if any, is available currently (and in the near future).

if you live in a 4g area it definitely will. Just make sure you know what 4g you have. Sprint spent a lot of time rolling out wimax so the coverage is pretty widespread and chances are if you have 4g around you it's wimax. Sprint only started roling out LTE which is even faster and is the future this past week.. However if you have wimax in your area I would advise you to go with the epic touch it is an excellent phone and will be a huge improvement on your iphone's 3g. Good luck

I'm in Chicago. Zip code is 60605. The WiMAX 4G coverage from the Sprint.com map looks good.

So my final question is: Will a 4G WiMAX phone have a faster data speed than a iPhone 3G? (It's an iPhone 4)

I was looking at the Galaxy S II. Couldn't find the Epic Touch. Any other recommendations? You guys have been a great help.
