Check this site to see when you will be getting LTE.
http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic...ning-list/

I have Evo LTE, and 3G is quite slow, even though it's faster than a lot of sprint users in the country.
I am getting 1000kbps down, 500kbps up

btw, WiMax is great in NYC.

How do you know when your area will get LTE or even 4G WiMax (which I still don't have)? Is there somewhere on the web site to check?

TIA
Check out http://s4gru.com/
It's an insider's blog with the latest information/rumors of when and where 4g is rolling out.

[EDIT] Hah MyAmex beat me to it by 1 min. I'm in Nashville and should be getting LTE in one of the next waves, sometime this year. Also have Evo 4G LTE and I agree, 3G is quite slow. I've been dealing with my Verizon friends mocking my network speed. Stick Out Tongue

I'm in Chicago. Zip code is 60605. The WiMAX 4G coverage from the Sprint.com map looks good.

So my final question is: Will a 4G WiMAX phone have a faster data speed than a iPhone 3G? (It's an iPhone 4)

I was looking at the Galaxy S II. Couldn't find the Epic Touch. Any other recommendations? You guys have been a great help.
Wimax 4G coverage will be much faster than 3G coverage. However you should be aware that Sprint is now switching over to an LTE 4G network. Sprint went wtih Wimax 4G at the beginning but is going to go with LTE from now on.

iphone can't connect to Wimax tower or LTE tower. You will only be getting 3G speed and somehow 3G on iphone is slower than 3G on Galaxy S2 in my area.

iphone 5 is probably a LTE ready device.

My advice is to wait for iphone 5 in October. Get it and sell it for profit. You can buy a Galaxy S2 or even Galaxy S3 for cheap. I bought my like new HTC Evo LTE for $350 on ebay. You can probably sell your iphone 5 for more than $600.

It says that Chicago will launch LTE soon ~2 months. I'm debating on either to buy a 4G Wimax phone now, or wait and get a 4G LTE phone later? I don't believe there are any phones that support both?

Galaxy S2 = Epic 4g Touch. Silly rename by Sprint. If you have good wimax coverage in your area, and don't see lte coming soon to your area on the S4GRU site, then the S2 is a good choice. That said, if LTE is coming soon to your area, you should get an LTE phone like the EVO 4g LTE or the Galaxy S3.

EDIT: Here is the map. [s4gru.com] If there are towers coming to your area of Chicago, I would probably go with an LTE phone. You can get one now or later, up to you... it'll work on the 3g network until your LTE towers are online, obviously.

Im in a conundrum as i have an original Sero plan 500 minutes unlimited text data nights and weekends yada yada yada ... for $30. I used my TP2 till it gave up the ghost of life and then i kinda "repaired" the esn on an Evo 4G to make it usable on my account (everything works except 4G ). Now im eligable for an upgrade and really want a new phone but i just cant justify increasing my base price from 30 to 50 in one shot (ie 10 to convert to sero premium to get access to the premium phones and then the extra 10 for the smartphone data charges).

Im looking at the Galaxy 3 or the Evo LTE BUT still im finiding it hard to change my plan.

I think I'll bite on a 4G LTE phone now and since Chicago will be rolled out soon. I'll still get 3G speeds until the LTE is rolled out.

I can get the HTC EV 4G LTE for $200 or the Galaxy S III for $200 or an S II for $150. Thoughts?

Go play with them in store and see if it is worth the $20 a month to upgrade. Smilie Personally, I would probably wait for LTE in that situation... but I had the TP2 until this Spring, so I am the type willing to suffer to save a few bucks...

Galaxy S3 wins hand down. It has removable battery, better screen and better developer support. You can sell S3 for more on ebay, it's about $500 on ebay.

S2 should be cheaper than that ($99, I thought), but it is wimax anyway, so you don't want that.

I chose the EVO 4g lte yesterday, but I don't think you can go wrong with either. My reason was partly aesthetic (I love it in the new white color), because I love the dedicated shutter release button, and I like that it is closer to stock android ice cream sandwich (but I am a android fan, so this may not apply to you). Both have compelling features, it is just a matter of preference, I think.

Apparently, this does not apply to SERO accounts.
Quote from RHCCapri View Post :
I did not see SERO mentioned on any of the webpages, but I do not think Sprint will let you buy one of these phones directly from them for $0.99 without switching off SERO to a modern plan.

You can try to print out the Sprint sale prices, then take them to Best Buy or Radio Shack and ask for a price match. I have read that some Best Buy associates have been able to get Sprint to activate an upgrade smartphone on a Sero Premium plan (Sero-P). So there is a chance that you can get the phones on sale with a price match.

Good hunting!
Quote from dmcccdmn View Post :
That might be worth a try. Repped.

Thanks. The key to getting a SERO upgrade is to call Sprint before you buy and ask if your new phone from Best Buy or Radio Shack is compatible with SERO-P. If they say no, hang up and keep calling. When you get a rep that says you should still be able to stay on the same plan have them note your account stating that. If BB wants to sell you an Everything plan, just buy the phone and go home to activate it. Call Sprint and have them switch your plan back to SERO-P.
since this is Sprint, not a third-party, so normally I would assume it would work with SERO-P....has anyone tried it? I was hoping to get the cheap nexus for my wife, who has a Marquee...otherwise i'll wait for a better price on the EVO LTE or SGIII

if you are talking about ESN clone, Galaxy S2 and Evo LTE can be easily cloned with your TP2 ESN. I don't know about S3 though.

Better screen than the LTE? It is pentile and dimmer than the LTE... the colors are over-saturated, too... I don't think I've read a single professional review that places it as better than the LTE.
