I have the Belkin Sharemax N300 ($22) loaded with Shibby's big-vpn build and it has been rock solid for the last month or two. We have about 4-5 computers (one of which used as 24/7 seedbox), a couple tablets, and a couple media streamers all connected; not one reset needed, no dropouts, nothing.

Considered upgrading to this one, but being that I can stream 1080p content just fine on our current router, I can't really see why I'd need the extra throughput. That being said, if I didn't already have the N300 I'd probably go with this one for the extra 8 bucks.

Phew reviews are pretty bad on amazon. Pass. My old D-link gaming router is rock solid, and who needs N speed when you got Giga wired run anyway! (Wifi sucks IMHO, latency is just so slow)

It doesn't run nearly as hot as the e3000 (I have the N300, not this N600).

And yes, this will work for a wireless bridge (repeater or otherwise). You just need to get DD-WRT installed (I didn't really like the settings on tomato) and configure.

I did it last night around 2am, and it works perfectly so far. Just remember that with a router configured as a repeater you get 1/2 the bandwidth due to dual transmission. I use it to blast the internet out to my yard, so no big deal.

something that does strike me as interesting as to whether it would be possible: Could you connect two simultaneous dual-band routers as a wireless bridge using both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands? One band could be upstream, the other could be downstream. Possible?

Now whether that's worth its price tag is another question. I believe there's a lower end DIR-827 model as well. In any case, it's not particularly useful without 802.11ac.

But when it really comes down to it, doesn't your internet download/upload speed truly depend on your internet provider and not the router? I have an old netgear router wireless g, and can stream netflix fine, online game fine, and do most everything without lag. Can a newer router really make a noticeable difference? On the fence with upgrading what seems to work fine.

With ddwrt USB functionality is maintained . Good router but very bad with stock , you need to change to ddwrt or tomato to use this . Fully stable with ddwrt . You can connect HDD to it .

After flashing DD-WRT mini, I flashed dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin
to router. I have not had a chance to play around the router yet.

Then click on BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2 -> 2012 -> 06-08-12-r19342 -> broadcom_K26 -> dd-wrt.v24-19342_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin
or another compatible file. Note after the 2012 directory you may see will see a folder more recent that 06-08-12-r19342 in a few day to months.
