where's all the back-to-school deals for laptops?
I have been lurking this forum for weeks and there hasn't been one truly decent deal for a laptop. I've read post saying deals will come sometime in August, but will they really? I want to spend less than 900 dollars after taxes (CA kills so many deals with taxes...).anyways, I'm looking for an i7 ivy bridge with dedicated graphics. Nvidia preferred, but i dont mind AMD as some i've read are actually pretty decent. I really want a 1080p screen but 1600 x 900 will do fine. I'm looking for 15.6 + inches. so many deals posted here i see lack in this department. (i despise you 1366 x 768!!!). 3 essential things i look for when buying a laptop is scren res, processor, and dedicated graphics. an ideal laptop would be an i7 ivy bridge with nvidia graphics and a 1080p screen. along with that i would like a backlit keyboard, good battery, and nice form factor. is it impossible to get this under 900? btw, a free xbox would be sweet. some brands i like are asus and dell. A brand i try to avoid is HP, but I do really like the look of their envy lineup. I was configuring stuff on HP's website and the lowest i could find for the specs i just listed was 1,099 plus CA tax = deal killer. I lurk frys and costco and other tech deal sites daily and nothing pops my eyes out ever... I request help my fellow slickdealers! Last edited by truthbuzz; 07-17-2012 at 08:32 PM.. |

It's the middle of July. The back-to-school deals will happen at back-to-school time. I hope you were sitting down for that, because it was probably a big shock to you, maybe you should also go to the pharmacy and get yourself some OTC heart medication just in case.
All the kids are out having fun; no one is doing any back-to-school shopping right now. They're traveling Europe, just hanging out, working summer jobs, doing internships and clerkships, taking road trips, etc. Do you really think any vendors are going to have any luck luring kids to the Container Store for some plastic storage and bathroom organization and to the local department store for some clothes and bedding? You were told to wait until August, so wait until August. If you *must* have a laptop now, you need to just do your own searches in the hot deals section for a laptop you like, watch newegg, and check the Dell outlet (especially if you get a 15%-25% coupon from the forums here or an email). |

I did give you a useful response; you're being impatient about waiting for back-to-school sales. The places I mention are the 3 best places to find a good deal on a laptop on the internet, IMO. The only sure way to get a better deal is to be comfortable buying used, and to scour Craigslist for someone that bought something that was way too much for them, or bought something too expensive and is now in immediate need for money. Thanks to all the B&M stores pushing these advanced specs onto people that don't know any better (or the half that go into a store and claim that they "use Photoshop" despite not even knowing what a layer mask is), this is not very difficult to find. |
