Can we get more Deal Notifications?
Hi, I hope you're well.I was wondering if there was a way to increase the number of allowed Deal Notifications? I currently can have 100, but I have been finding myself deleting one to add another on a regular basis. Personally, 100 is great, but as I help dozens of friends keep an eye on deals, more alerts would be much appreciated. If 100 is indeed the most a user can have at the moment, perhaps users can have the ability to earn more somehow, such as by being a registered user for a certain amount of time, having a certain amount of posts, and having a certain amount of reputation points. I would be for the first of the three listed options. Thanks, Tofu Vic Last edited by TofuVic; 07-18-2012 at 09:27 AM.. Hi. Don't forget that you can combine deal alerts, if you haven't already done so. Example, if you're looking for LEGO toys and also for an SSD in Hot Deals, you could combine those into one alert, by putting your keyword as lego | ssd (using the | pipe symbol as a logical OR, to search for either lego OR ssd). Or say you're looking for a screwdriver and also wrenches in Hot Deals, you could use screwdriver | wrench | wrenches as your keyword, etc. You can group similar items into one alert, or several different kinds of items, your choice
I don't recall the character limit for the keyword field, but I think them max limit is somewhere between 64 and 99 characters allowed, so you can fit quite a few keywords in there. The Deal Alert FAQ page might help, as it shows a ton of other combinations that you can use to get more use out of your DA's

We'll also look into increasing this limit

I personally am fine - at least for the moment! - with using "complex logical statements," but am sure there are many people who would be turned off by such a thing. It seems like in terms of user-friendliness, allowing more deal notifications would be beneficial. Thanks for the replies, Tofu Vic |

Granting each user hundreds of deal notifications may not be ideal, but at the same time, I'm a bit confused about the "complex logical statements" that each user can use to potentially create thousands of deal notifications. My thinking is that the initial implementation of these complex statements could not possibly have been a way to deter users from having too many deal notifications. And as the system currently allows people to create virtually as many alerts as they want, wouldn't it be a good idea to just allow users to create more alerts easily? Please note that these are just thoughts and I am not actually pushing this hard to get a bigger deal notification system in place! Thanks, Tofu Vic |

and I agree, surely it wasn't designed to be like that, but at the same time it works - yes you can have quite a few deal alerts, but only if you are one of the few who wants to put forth the effort in doing so, effectively limiting people who would "abuse" them by using them when they don't really want it that much, just because it exists if the system allows people to do so too easily, people will use more than they need - some people are just greedy by nature, that's just the way it is |
