Was about to pull the trigger but after taxes it comes out to be almost $1300 for me. Ouch..... Last edited by PinkTacoEater; 07-19-2012 at 06:50 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Great hardware, no doubt. But I wouldn't pay 1K+ for a Lenovo Ideapad Y series laptop. Even though the processing/video hardware is better than 2K Macbook Pros, it's not like it's a desktop, you're not just buying hardware, you're buying a chassis and a keyboard and a touchpad that aren't replaceable. And unfortunately the build quality of the rest of the components aren't much better than the IdeaPads that go on sale for $300.
Companies like Asus have got it figured out by releasing their premium hardware in a different chassis, like the G73 etc. Lenovo needs to do the same thing. It's not 2003 any more, you can't just sell roughly identical laptops with different internals and price the computers from a range of 300-1000 dollars. Of course, that's just my opinion. Please no accusations of "trolling" just because you disagree. (This seems to be a pretty common tact on SD these days: anyone who dislikes a deal is a troll.) That being said, I doubt this computer has worse build quality than like, Alienware laptops (which build wise, are pretty mediocre.) Even though some of the stuff is useless (ugh, we're still doing the Blu-Ray drive in laptops thing?), I haven't seen many laptops with this kind of hardware in this price range. It's tempting in terms of raw power. |

Think. They are trying to sell this thing to you, so if they say 8GB max it's 8GB max. But yes, all 3rd-gen i5 or i7 CPUs can handle 32GB of ram. |

8GB moduels have been supported for a fair while... by... Well heck my Phenom II supports them. I don't think anything that uses DDR3 doesn't... Though maybe the atom. But feck the atom. I just assume they say 8GB max because they don't feel like carrying the vastly more expensive per GB 8GB moduels. I can't frankly blame them either. I also can't imagine their system not taking them. |
