Directv New Customer Offer for Fall 2012

My dads install was on the 17th, and he got his Costco card on the 3rd. Pretty quick!

i am on month 15 of the 2 year agreement. It is expensive now, anyone have any luck of them lowering rates now? Or any competitors that would pay your early termination fee?

Yes, of course, almost all SD customers call after Month 12 and play the script - get retentions, ask about ETF, use a sob story, and get new credits/rebates/pricing. Play CSR roulette as needed. Repeat every 6-12 months.

I don't think you'll have any trouble as long as you canceled before signing up under someone else's name. But, don't they do a credit check? Won't your relative's name show up with a different address?

Our new equipment was working nicely until about two weeks ago. Now it seems like we have to reset the receiver every second or third time we turn on the tv. Sometimes the receiver is fine but the small secondary Genies can't find the main server, and that also requires a reset.

I have a "hypothetical" question for all you experts on pinching pennies.

I have a relative who lives nearby who has a directv dish installed. Can I loan them a receiver from my house, and have them be able to watch the same programming as I have on it when in my house?

A related question...If I purchase NBA League Pass in an account located in another state, could I by borrowing a Directv receiver from that account, be able to pick up Houston Rocket games that are blacked out on directv in this area? (The same problem exists for Laker games in Los Angeles)

In short, how would Directv know that the receiver/smart card is not located where it was when it was activated?

Would such sharing be considered the same as cable theft of signal?

Yes, they could watch the same programming package as you have. Directv doesn't know where the receiver/smart card is located but it is against their terms to do this. If you have service and use receivers at two locations (like a vacation home/hunting cabin) you are only supposed to use one location at a time. The only issue you would run into is being out of the spotbeam for locals but if the other house is close that shouldn't be an issue. That should work for the NBA games as well...but I'm not 100% on that one.

Carrying the receiver to someone else's house sounds like a lot of trouble. If they have internet access and don't care about live TV, you could use your DirecTV password at their house to watch TV on a phone, tablet, or computer. Or, a Slingbox would let them see whatever you're watching on your tv.

If they don't have internet access, the DirecTV Nomad (or something like the Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR) would allow you to copy shows from your DVR to an iPad or computer.

Is this deal officially dead, or is there a new one that replaced the one that ended on 12/5/12? My TWC two year contract ends on 12/31 of this year, and I'm looking ahead so that I'm ready to to switch. Is there a "New Customer Offer for Winter 2012"? Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks

New one replaced it, essentially the same except of course no NFL Sunday Ticket.
