Something about these has just never seemed right to me.

The brim got all floppy after doing this the one time I tried it.

It clearly took the color right out in that picture. The before has a blue top and the after is all orange! Photoshop fail.

Anyways I'd never wash a hat, the brims are cardboard. Cardboard + water = mush.

I wash my husband caps, but I have never tried an actual cap washer. They seem to do just fine I have never had one go to mush before! Interesting idea and good price to try it and see

I do the same. Just put them on the top rack in the dishwasher and run it. My darker hats start to fade after the 4th or 5th time. Gives them a nice aged look

These suck, unless you like your brim flat... I wear a hat at work, also when not at work, so I need to wash them often. I find the easiest way is to put the hat in one of the large pockets of my cargo shorts, that way the brim does not get destroyed in the washer (The outer edge with wear off if you just throw it in the washer unprotected). FYI, always let the hat air dry, and never put them in the dryer (Unless you want to shrink your head to fit after).

Sometimes these work, sometimes they don't. I've never really had a problem with the cardboard bill getting ruined or too soggy but that's just personal experience, YMMV.

Things to consider: If the hat has a lot of sentimental value like say an official licensed World Series or Superbowl hat, than maybe the dry cleaners is your best option. I still have my 1984 NLCS Championship hat (when the Padres beat the Cubs - poor Cubbies). Because it's white and cotton, it's held up pretty well with the cap washer in the dishwasher. Others I've put through have lost a fair amount of their color.

If it's a 50/50 cap or all wool, then I would definitely consider the dry cleaners as the only option. Dishwashers run at high temp. Don't go overboard with the detergent either.

Something I haven't tried are the new "low sudsing" detergents for front loading clothes washers. It may work - don't know. It would definitely be the case of using a pretty small amount though. Dishwashers use much less water.

Price wise, not much of a deal here. Bed, Bath & Beyond probably has them, possibly WalMart & KMart as well. Just keep an eye out and eventually you'll see them in a store for about the same price (and no shipping charges)

they don't flop around?--then what's point of this thing? our dishwasher only washes w/hot water--would that shrink hats?

Sounds like a great deal, just not sure if I like the idea of sweat in my dishwasher

I've washed my light gray Nike golf cap twice now and it came out perfectly--no cap cage necessary.

Just put in the shower with you and clean it there... after the shower wear the wet hat for about 30 minutes so it'll keep your head shape... That's how we do it in afghanistan.
