The price is at least three times what I would consider paying. I think I will stick to making rice in a pan.

I think it's insane and most certainly not a slick deal to way overpay for an item like this. Please don't be dumb, compare products that will get the job done. Buying one of these is like buying a washing machine with 314 different options, stain detection systems, and a glossy red paint job all for only $2,999. The better choice is the ugly white one that does as good or better of a job and costs $299, or $50 on craigslist from the fool who just bought the red one. |

Picked up the Sanyo equivalent several years ago for $90 with an Amazon Goldbox deal. Fuzzy logic cookers are for people who either eat a fair bit of rice (why they are popular across much of Asia, go figure
) or for people who like perfectly cooked rice and don't have time to keep a close eye on it. I cooked rice for years on a stove top, then was given an old style simple heating-element style cooker, and then I purchased the Sanyo. It paid for itself in that you will never scrub burned rice off the bottom of a pot again, and the fact that brown rice and steel cut oats are easy to cook in these (versus being tricky on a stove top, they are easy to burn if you are doing other things). This price is decent, Zojirushi is the premium brand, but as I mentioned if you watch closely a couple of times a year you can usually pick up a fuzzy logic rice cooker this size for a little under $100.

After using Sanyo, Panasonic and Zojirushi, Zojirushi makes the best rice. We use it daily to cook white rice, nothing fancy. The gumminess and texture is perfect, not too soft nor too hard. The different is subtle but it's there. Easy to tell if you eat rice all your life. Don't skim on something you'll use everyday. BTW, always always look for fuzzy logic (I think Zojirushi makes non fuzzy logic model), don't use quick cook. Quick cook makes the rice taste like it's cook from other brand....

Its regular mode makes better rice than any other brands I have even owned.
Even reheat can give you the similar taste. Only part I would complain is the cooking time is a little bit too long.

Please do us all a favor and quit trying to act like you know diddly squat about this product when you a) obviously don't know anything, b) have never used it or seen anyone else use it, & c) know nothing about why this product is even at this price. And to OP: Thanks.
For everyone else: this is obviously for people (generally easterners) who eat rice for every meal (3x a day). For instance me. This product is well worth the money. Some people pay over a grand for a top of the line backdoor grill. To some that's overkill for a grill but to whoever cooks outdoor alot, it's an invaluable investment and well worth the money in the long run. Last edited by dukpoki; 07-19-2012 at 02:36 PM.. |

ON TOPIC: this is a mediocre deal. You can catch them cheaper thoughout the year. |

funny you think this is mostly plastic. You've must of never seen the innards of this machine have you? They are built/designed to be on 24/7 and will last you many, many years (not to mention every rice cooking will turn out to be perfect). The one i have is 15+ years strong. The $17 one the other guy was talking about wouldn't last a week if it was left on 24/7. This is a high end deal comparable to a high end grill. If anything a zojirushi is all practical+performance. The high end grills are also high end because they have superior cooking qualities, longer life, etc. Yet when you talk about them you focus on how it has stainless steel with some kind of sweet rock inlays which makes it seem like you only consider it high end because it looks pretty. Practical+Performance > Aesthestics. And yes i've had $100 slick deal grills that served me well for a couple of years but after all the rusting, the need for maintenance, and the uneven temperature/fire control, i think next time i will buy a nicer grill. this is usually true for all things in life. you get what you pay for. tldr; The Zoji is a tank. The $17 one is b-b gun. Get what you want/have money for. You get what you pay for. Last edited by dukpoki; 07-19-2012 at 03:08 PM.. |
