This isn't for someone who eats rice just couple times a week. Ideally, it's something that you can make in the morning, and eat throughout the day. Or, like in our family, my mom would make fresh rice for dinner, and then have enough leftover and still relatively fresh for the morning after. Another thing is, it's literally "set it and forget it." Rice is THE centerpiece of most Asian meals. At least in Korea and Japan, the word for a meal ("bap" for Korean and "gohan" for Japanese) literally means cooked rice. It's one thing you cannot mess up. And there's a huge comfort in making the centerpiece of a meal pretty much worry-free and automated. But again, if you're not a rice eating family, this deal is not very good for you. |

I eat rice for every meal and I use a cheap rice cooker. It's just a heating element that heats water. I'm not sure what's so amazing about this one, it cooks and has a warm option. That's what the cheap ones have. When you see an LCD screen on a product that doesn't need one that's the first sign they are trying to jazz it up to get you to buy it. Second clue is the words "Neuro Fuzzy Technology." That doesn't mean anything to anyone buying this. We get it, it has some temperature probes and adjusts the heating element. I think the point is this thing has a massive markup and it's 30% off basically. Which is fine if you have been wanting this, not so slick if you are looking for deals in general.

I guarentee I eat more rice on a daily basis than everyone else in this thread COMBINED. At 500+ pounds of manliness, I can tell you these are worth their weight in GOLD.
(just to give you an idea, I can go through a 20# bag in a week. And that's when I'm dieting. Last edited by ape; 07-20-2012 at 07:23 AM.. You can give a man a fish, and he'll be fed for a day, but if you beat him, unmerciful, with that same fish -- he'll leave you alone forever.

I've been using some semi cheap model for several years and I've always had to serve and/or remove the rice from the cooker immediately upon cooking completed or it would just stick/burn to the bottom. It will be much more convenient to be able to allow it to stay in the cooker until ready to serve. I'm also excited that this cooker does brown rice well. I love brown rice but have never been able to get my cooker to cook it properly so gave up some time ago. |
