I guess that depends on your definition of downside. If you're shorter in height, it probably wouldn't be too bad. However, if you're taller than say, 5'9 you may want to just get an actual snow shovel. Another potential downside would be the pointed metal blade. That thing will do some damage to your sidewalk/patio/driveway...which is why most snow shovels have flat hard plastic blades. I would leave this shovel to digging only.
