I've got $4,000 to spend and need to get three new TVs (we just moved into a large home). I already have a 5 year old 50" Panasonic plasma in the living room (my main TV) that I am moving into the bedroom and I'm thinking of replacing with the Panasonic 55VT50. Not sure if I need the VT or not, but I usually buy the top model for my main TV (Oh, and I can't go any larger than this as it will need to fit into a "cubby" with my surround sound, TV stand, etc).
I then need a TV for our "gaming/media/movie" room and I'm thinking of either the 60ST50 or possibly going much larger with a 92" Mitsubishi DLP for a little more money. I fell in love with a Sharp 70" LCD at HH Gregg but it wasn't showing any motion, just music... but I love the large size but not the $5,000 price (I figure the DLP is the best way to get the size while keeping the cost down - just not sure about the brightness levels on the edges). Otherwise, I will stick with Panasonic Plasma and get the 65ST50. There is plenty of room for it in this room too but I'm not making this room into JUST a home theater room as it already has an air hockey table in it and will have some cabinet arcade games in there too. I will also be hooking up the PS3 to this TV to get the kids off my main TV.
The last TV isn't that important as it is going on the wall in my office in front of my desk, so it will be about 4 feet away. I'm thinking a 42" UT50 Panasonic plasma.
I greatly prefer plasma's over LED/LCDs as I hate the bright light they can give off and like the dark blacks on plasma's (I watch TV in almost complete darkness). Plus, I get motion sickness fairly easy and find the motion blur on LED/LCDs in the stores to bother me (yes, even the 240HZ). I also love my Panasonic plasma that I got several years ago and have had no issues with it, so I am a little biased towards Panasonic Plasma's. Based on what I read on these forums and elsewhere, it seems they are still the top of the heap. I'm not one to get my TV's "professionally calibrated" either, so I'm not sure the VT is warranted over the ST or if I need to worry about the top models or not. Unfortunately, I'm unable to compare the VT to the ST in the store as no one carries anything more than an ST.
Any thoughts? Ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have... along with C-Net, Consumer Reports, and the Hi-def forum. Even posted this same question on AVS with little help. No biggie... just thought someone might offer up some ideas or help if they had been in the same situation.
