Adams gave the example of the guy in florida as an example of some guy "saving lives" with his CCW as if those two guys were going to rob everyone, then murder everyone in the internet cafe.

He wasnt citing that he was "saving peoples possessions" and thats why he needed to pull out his weapon. When you rape someone you are not taking their possessions but are instead assaulting them. Its an entirely different discussion really, and it gets very complicated because shooting someone who is assaulting someone else tends to have collateral damage. If i had a CCW and sexual assault was being committed i'd draw my weapon and tell the person to stop or i'll shoot, then if they drew their weapon id shoot them (since they drew their weapon to kill me, not to rob me, like i said, different situations). However i wouldnt go in with guns blazing.

A. Run at the gunman and tell him you're not carrying because people who carry kill people, or
B. Human shield?

Personally, mad men tend to leave people who don't fight alone. They are only after the biggest challenge and don't anticipate negative opposition.

As much the kill may bring you joy, there's a reason why modern thinking on justice tends to emphasize corrective action over punitive punishment, ironically in part to protect ToughGuys who tend to end up on the wrong end of the latter.

Really though youre not doing a great job of arguing that this is prevalent cause of death, instead youre getting tunnel vision. 5000+ pedestrians died when hit by vehicles last year, 2640 died in house fires (not including firefighters). You have a greater chance of dying from those than you do dying from someone shooting you with a gun.

Society is safer today than ever before, and certainly not due to a policy of escalating threats.

I suppose it's still an instinctual desire for some to play war in spite of this, but fortunately it's mostly the realm of imagination these days.
