Why Won’t Romney Release More Tax Returns?

He won't release his tax returns because he cheated on his taxes and he knows the media will investigate his fraud more thoroughly than the IRS would.

Given his dogged insistence he won't release more, and his knowledge of the cost, I think its all of the above plus.... there is something at lease highly unethical if not indeed tax avoidance, which is illegal and could result in prosecution.

Even if your unsubstantiated belief is true, I'm sure either it was an honest mistake and he just forgot to declare income/took an incorrect deduction or he used Turbotax and it was all screwed up.

While I don't necessarily trust John McCain, he got to look at 20+ years of Romney's tax returns before the last presidential election and has said there is nothing disqualifying in them. McCain isn't exactly the most loyal member of the Republican Party and I imagine if there had been anything extremely bad there he would have been more than happy to announce it at the time.

Not that I am going to take McCain at his word to close this case but why would McCain hang himself out there now when it is likely that at some point these tax returns are going to come out?

Personally I hope Romney is just playing mind games with the libs, letting them get all worked up over the tax returns and create all kinds of conspiracy theories and then he will release the tax returns closer to the election and make them all look like nutjobs when there isn't anything wrong in them.

In general, people see the motives in others that motivate themselves.

IE. when you say others are motivated only by self-interest, that is a strong indicator that it is you who is motivated by self-interest.

You should be concerned about what Romney has done with his money because that is a strong indicator of his character and what he will do with the country policy wise.

IE. is he an "every man for himself" guy, or a "we're all in it together" guy.

Pretty sure he is the former and you probably like that.

There have already been embarassments in the return he has released.

If embarrassments disqualify someone from running for President then Obama would have been out of the running a long time ago.

Since Romney's not releasing any tax returns pre 2010, I'm guessing the issue is in the 2009 return.

It's most likely that he just paid a low effective tax rate.
