Exactly. If the local police and prosecutors were actively engaging in coverup, I'm sure the FBI would have been interested to hear about it. And someone as important as Paterno would have been able to get their attention.

No one is saying that other people weren't involved. We're just saying that the fact that other people were complicit doesn't excuse the actions (or inactions) of any individual.

Some would agree or disagree on the ratting out a friend issue... child molestation crosses the line for most... but then again were talking about a 14 year long cover up...

Would I rat out a friend who brought his own cup into a fast food restaurant and filled it up without paying for it? Not likely. But then I never said I was perfect when it comes to moral standards.

I would certainly "rat out" a good friend if they were raping children.

I agree with the idea that all these involved in covering it up should be punished. Of course, nobody here is stating otherwise. fact is, Spanier, Curley and Schultz are not famous. Paterno is, and the higher your throne, the farther you fall. He should have known that helping to cover this put his legacy at risk.

anyone here worth a damn would have ratted out ANYONE. if I saw my mother doing this I would call the police. the fact that you ask that question makes one wonder what kind of person you are.
