No power since Friday evening

Our forecast on Friday called for scattered thunderstorms, but that's normal for us, this time of year. We weren't expecting 60 mile an hour winds and quarter-size hail We have been staying at DDs since then. We were at her house for dinner when it hit. Good thing we weren't home because it ripped up part of our shed. Part of the roof ( a large piece of tin with a 16' 2x4 and three 6' 2x4s attached to it) was torn off and it landed where I park my car. We are supposed to get power tonight by 11pm.

We had a few nights like that 2 weeks ago. We lost power for about 2 hours one night.

We did as well. We had over 2 weeks at 100+ heat with no rain. Then stormed for what seem like everyday for over a week. I lost power 4 days in a row. (tho it was never out for more than a couple hours)

I feel your pain. I was without power for a week over the week of July 4th. It was over 100 degrees every day but one. These storms have just been insane this year. We had a regular thunderstorm with 60 to 80 mile an hour winds snap our trees in half. It was crazy. Glad all the damage is superficial.

Been there, done that. Did it this year for 3 days in the spring when it really started to heat up and last year for about 5 days. Last year the worst because we had no screen door (did not know we could request one from the apartment complex and were told No on numerous occasions previously) and it was mid 90s with 60-100% humidity most days.

Dont you have a water mill that provides you with electricity ?

My wife and I lost power twice last year... the first time we lost power for about 4 days after Hurricane Irene and the second time we lost power for a week after the October snowstorm hit the northeast.



It really sucks to be without power, especially when it's for such a long time. Candlelight stops being romantic and starts being depressing after about 2 days I have found. Good luck OP I hope you get your power back soon!

We didn't have power or water for four weeks after Hurricane Rita. We live in a sparsely populated area so we are usually last to get power. We're about to head home and see if it's back on.

That's why it's nice to have an old school answering machine plugged in at home. When the tornado hit my condo and took out the power for most of that part of the country and I had to stay elsewhere, I just kept calling until the machine answered.

That's a great idea! We thought that our cellphones would work, but DH had to be back to work once the winds got below 45 MPH ( I stayed with family for a couple of days). I tried his cell, but many of the towers were damaged or down. I called our home phone and he actually answered! It didn't go completely out until the next day when a tree finally decided to fall across the line.

We learned another good tip. If you have to evacuate, set a cup with ice in it, in your freezer. If it's still in cube form, your most probably didn't lose power of not for very long, anyway. If the cubes have melted and/or have refrozen into a solid piece, then your freezer goods are now trash.

Oh, and we have power again!
