If you are on the fence, do yourself and your family a favor and get this TV. I paid $1499 for it when it first came out as I was in need for a TV. I am a plasma guy for full disclosure! Now with that out of the way, the blacks and contrast on this is excellent. Motion blur is non-existant. Colors are nice and accurate with different degrees of skin tone color once calibrated. 3D is a joy to watch. If you have Directv, there are 3 full time 3D channels for you to watch free. Can't wait for the Olympic games in 3D this weekend. Cheap 3D glasses that work with this tv can be found here. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/...05_s00_i01
It is a Smart TV so it has Netflix, Amazon On Demand, Hulu, etc and wireless wifi built in! It's pretty thin and has a nice translucent border. Heat is much less than previous plasma's I owned. Electricity is rated at $36 for the entire yr based on 5 hrs day according to the sticker. You can find the calibration settings on HighDefJunkies after you register on their website. It's under Reviews>D-Nice and that's the settings I am using. |

and getting this tv |

Just pulled the trigger!
![]() I've been reading about the Panasonic plasmas for a while, along with all the others, and am convinced that these are by far the best deals out there right now. I've been mulling this over for two days now, reading even more about the Panasonic plasmas and other competitors. For the price, I think they are the best deal by far, especially at $1139.49 for the 55" ST model shipped & taxed. Yes, it doesn't come with glasses, but you can get them on Amazon for $17 and change. My main concern at first with plasmas was burn in and overall life. I now understand that life with modern plasmas is probably far longer than any of the LCD HDTVs, and this is verified by several reputable sources. Burn in is apparently not a big deal either as long as you take precautions for the first 100-200 hours. There are several sites that address this, like this one: http://www.highdefforum.com/flat-...wners.html I thought I really wanted an LED LCD, but after tons of research and visits to stores, I am just so dissatisfied with all the imperfections, issues and problems with them. That technology just is not perfected, even at the high end models. Paying good money and seeing ghosting, flashlighting, bands, lack of uniformity of color and intensity, etc. is just unacceptable. Yes, the high end models are very good, but I'm not spending that kind of money on a TV. I'll buy a waverunner, ATV, firearm or other toy for that money. Since the room this is going in is fairly dark (no windows, indirect light from windows only), the Panasonic ST should be perfect. Yes, the Samsung plasmas are brighter, but they cost way more, and from what I've learned, this increase in brightness will make them more susceptible to burn in. Plus, I just don't think that super bright images look realistic, but that's just me. Can't wait to get it!!! Thanks for all the good info, people, especially the advice to PDF copy the purchase receipt!
Ugh, my order is on "Backorder" at the moment. They say it will ship in 1-3 business days. SOB!!! I'll keep everyone posted on the actual ship date if they let me know... Last edited by brubro; 07-24-2012 at 07:13 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Nevermind. When I re-registered on the Perkspot w/ a different email it worked. Not sure why mine wasn't working.
I did see the 1074 price initially. Then I logged into my Discover card site and clicked Panasonic cashback link through them. Maybe that messed me up????? |
