Help with Browser cache issue? CCleaner might have caused this
So last night I ran CCleaner and cleaned out my computer's recycle bin using CCleaner.Well today I was trying to surf to Staples.com and it won't load properly. It will load most of the page then restart the page load and then hang on just the blank page. When I hit reload, the page doesn't do anything but I end up seeing this in the address bar. wysiwyg://6/http://www.staples.com/ The number 6 goes up every time I try to refresh. Strange thing is I can view other sub staples pages such as staples.com/weeklyad but not the home page for staples. WTF did I do wrong? Did I totally screw things up on my computer and browser? I closed both chrome and firefox, ran ccleaner again but the same. So I rebooted and tried to load the page again but with no difference. I shut down ad block, ghostery and other extensions but nothing.. Any help and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Superoceans Threads &Rebate tracking worksheet &Frys Rebate FAQ

I'd try running CCleaner again and also run its registry cleaner too. Reboot Then you might try.... ipconfig /flushdns Also scan for malware.... MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpywre... Hitman Pro etc. Also run the History clearing from within the browsers too. I doubt its a CCleaner issue. Could be malware...or bad cache. Last edited by boltman2007; 07-23-2012 at 06:49 PM.. |

I know that everyone here considers it the best thing since sliced bread, but I don't trust it all, SPECIALLY the registry cleaner part !!

I've used CCleaner also and regularly use it and has never had an issue so much as once or with anyone I've directed to use it. Now what I can say is that if the system CCleaner is run on was already in a hosed yet not diagnosed state, CCleaner doesn't help and may aggravate the situation but that's not CCleaner's fault. The system was already shiite to begin with. But the first thing that is going to get blamed is CCleaner.

It's as simple as this. Several times, (maybe 10) I have had people come back within days of me super tweaking the OS to its fastest state, and they had installed CCleaner (for god know what reason) and messed it up. Most of the time, I've been able to get it out of there and get it back up to speed, but 2 or 3 times, I just had to reisntall Windows, and that part, I would blame on the registry CCleaner part of that program. What else could do enough damage that for a new OS install, than doing bad/dumb things to the registry. The best thing a person can do with the registry is to leave it to heck alone, except when following some specific instructions to go take care os a specific problem or adjustment. I say this to all the CCleaner fans here. Have you ever heard of a registry cleaner that did any good for your system? Isn't it a fact that you have heard of reg cleaners actually doing damage? So who made CCleaner the king of the puter world with the only good registry CCleaner on Planet Earth that is worth a damn. Y'all may hate me or think I'm dumb, and the only response I have is that you have been convinced by the masses that it's a good product, plus you observed it doing some good things, so you have been deceived into believing that even the reg cleaner is good. To take it one step further, one could argue that if it's just the reg cleaner that sux, one could use only the good options, and that would make sense to a certain extent, except, why would I trust anything from them, if I am convinced that their reg cleaner does harm to computers. I have my long list of tricks for tweaking computers and I'm not going to turn this into a battle of this prog being better that CCleaner, I've said my piece and am ready for all the criticism, and for those who do see the logic in what I am saying, perhaps those folks won't land up with problems caused by CCleaner. Have you seen those adds that just came out on TV in the last few months, that promise to make your machine faster, more secure, smoother, etc, MyFasterPc and after investigating the product, it turns out that it is nothing but an over glorified registry cleaner, with some other poorly made standard cleaners, as if that will make the puter run twice as fast, as their actors claim. It' like CCleaner, lands up doing more damage than good. |

AS for any registry cleaner here is a good article....
http://lifehacker.com/5482701/wha...-the-point "If you stop and think about it, you'll realize that since the registry contains many hundreds of thousands of keys (or more), removing 50 or even 100 of them isn't going to yield any performance gains. Windows expert Ed Bott has some stronger words on the subject: I'd go a step further: Don't run registry cleaner programs, period. I won't go so far as to call them snake oil, but what possible performance benefits can you get from "cleaning up" unneeded registry entries and eliminating a few stray DLL files? That said, there are a few edge cases where cleaning the registry might yield some performance gains, if you've installed something that plugs into Windows somehow, doesn't work very well, and also doesn't uninstall itself properly. Most of these problems can be prevented in the first place by simply being more careful about what you install on your PC—after all, you shouldn't have to reinstall Windows regularly." Now if you decide to use one,,, CCleaner's one is good...I've used it occasionally with ZERO issues. Is it snake oil possibly... but it "could" fix something its an acceptable risk to me. |

![]() On Chrome, when i go to staples.com, it loads the page then somehow Chrome starts reloading the page. The end result is a white page with nothing on it. Please post a solution if you got one.

BTW: I want to thank you all for not coming down hard on me for making such an unpopular statement, as I did. I knew that I was going against the grain and was ready to accept the consequences, but y'all surprised me by being so very decent about it. Thanks. |
