Don't you have to get iPhone 4S warranties within a month of the purchase date of the iPhone? Or will this work as long as you are within the 1 year warranty period?

The standard warranty or the AppleCare warranty does not cover accidental damage.

Although Apple does not cover accidental coverage, they will offer to swap your broken screen iPhone 4S with a refurbished unit for $199. ($150 if you have iPhone 4)

Only the AppleCare Plus covers 2 accidental damage. Each incident has a fee of $50. AplpeCare plus can only be purchased within 30 days of the iPhone 4S original purchase date.

And how would they know where you bought it from? They don't care about that. I bought an iPad 2 from eBay and it came with an extra year of applecare on it that started in June. I upgraded to the iPad 3 and called apple to reimburse me the amount paid for the applecare (I don't have a reciept..but on purchase the seller had transferred everything to my name). They sent me a check for the entire amount...

No it will now. Physical damage is not covered under AppleCare. It only covers defects in hardware and software and not damage caused through negligence. For that you need AppleCare+ [apple.com] which will cost you $100 and covers ONLY 2 incidents of accidental damage + $49 EACH TIME you want to get that damage fixed.

No, you can activate the AppleCare as long as the iPhone is within the 1 year period of limited warranty that it came with. The 1 month period is when you activate that AppleCare on one iDevice and then want to transfer it to another iDevice...the transfer can only happen if you bought the other iDevice within 1 month of activating AppleCare.

Apple covers only defects from their product.
I had a defective earpiece and couldn't hear anything except from speaker and they couldn't even swap that 1 piece out. gave me a refurb that is having issues also.
if you want damage coverage, go with squaretrade.
it's great for accidents (drops, crack screen, water damage, etc)
gf bought 1 yr coverage for about $40 w/ promo, w/ $50 deductible, while apple charges $200 for every type of dmg. she cracked her phone and payed another $50 and emailed scanned receipt and they paid her back.

I think you have to purchase squaretrade within 1 month of activation. Don't remember exact details, but they are great.

So essentially AppleCare is just a standard warranty that lasts for two years instead of thr 1year default warranty. And AppleCare plus is the only one worth getting since it covers accidents and whatnot.

100 bucks cover everything (or at least a lot of it) that you own, including drops, spills, etc.

And what I always like to mention is... DON'T drop your phone! I've owned the iPhone ever since the first once came out...and apart from a few minor falls, like falling off my desk or bed (always in a case so no damage), I have never dropped it/cracked it/spilt water on it.

I find it a little strange that there are people like my friend, who payed $700 for an iPhone. Keeps it his backpocket and sits down...and crack.

Might be better off buying the Nokia 3310. The greatest phone ever made.

Obviously your situation is different since your iPad came with it already. Your iPad 2 was most likely still covered by its manufacturer's warranty when you upgraded to the newer iPad so Apple simply reimbursed you the entire amount paid for the AppleCare. Apple knows where you bought it from because they ask for the receipt/invoice for proper processing. A few years back I purchased AppleCare for my MacBook Pro through eBay (basically, what's going on in this thread). The MacBook Pro was stolen and I attempted to recoup the prorated amount. Apple refused because I had purchased it through eBay and/or the seller was not an authorized reseller.

Oh and...you're not going to believe this...The agent I spoke to when I was asking for a refund turned out to be the same agent I spoke to when the AppleCare was being transferred over to my name! What are the odds? I think that probably helped too!

P.S- I know for a FACT that NO receipt was provided because the seller didn't buy the iPad himself. It was a gift from someone and it came with the AppleCare and he was therefore selling it as such. Neither of us had any proof of purchase.
