How do I log in if I don't have any accounts with Chase? Is this promo only for people who have some kind of account with Chase but don't have a checking account with them?

what qualifies as a direct deposit other than my paycheck??

You must be an existing customer of Chase, but must be a new customer of their Chase checking account.

I am an existing Chase Freedom cardmember, and I was able to do this offer after logging into my account and then opened a new checking account with the $200 coupon code.

The major downside to this is that you have to bank with Chase.
While YMMV, the horror stories of using banks outweigh any possible benefit, imo.

Save yourself some hassle and just open an acct with a Credit Union.
You'll save more than $200 over time..

This is the procedure I followed(which is now in the wiki also):
Procedure

1. Log in to your existing Chase account on Chase.com
2. Grab the coupon code using the OP link
3. Go to Chase.com and open a new Checking account
4. Input the coupon code during the account opening process
5. To receive the bonus, you must apply a direct deposit within 60 days to the account. The money should be there within 10 business days.
6. FYI: The account cannot be closed within 6 months, otherwise you will be denied the bonus.

Well I am with a similarly large shitty bank right now, so I don't think I will have any worse customer service, but $23 for checks? How the hell can I do a direct deposit without getting a blank check to give my employer?

You can call the bank and they will give you the routing #/ACCT # you need for DD.


I still suggest credit unions. Here's an example of why:

Amfirst.org - a great Credit Union in Anniston, AL.

The way they work overdraft is they open a $500 credit line linked to your Checking account. If anything overdrafts, they pull enough to cover from the $500 CL. Then, you have until the end of the month to pay off the "loan". If you pay if before the end of the month, NO CHARGE. If you don't they charge a tiny amount of interest.

Even with the interest charged (a pittance) it's still vastly cheaper than the standard bank process of "HAMMER-TIME!!!!". You know, the overdraft merry-go-round that makes you wish they'd used lube..

YMMV, but after my 1st CU, I've never looked back.. Good Luck!

You don't have to buy checks from the bank. I buy all of mine online. You just need to know the routing and account numbers.
