First Washer and Dryer
My daughter and boyfriend would like to purchase a washer and dryer for their apartment. They don't have much money but have ok credit (qualify for store card or special financing). They would like to purchase a basic washer and dryer of decent quality and reliability. They don't need "features" and don't care about top or front load. Could I get some suggestions on models, stores and financing options that might work best for a young couple? Would it be worthwhile to wait for the labor day sales? I've managed to talk her out of the extended warranty pit. The first sales guy she talked to had her thinking it was absolutely necessary. BEstbuy credit cards usually have some sort of 0% financing for a certain amount of months. We did that when we bought all our appliances for our house. We ended up with their cheapest washing machine/dryer (since I spent most of our budget on the stove) but it has held up well over the past 3 years. Its a maytag. Looks like if you buy $429 or more at bestbuy, their creditcard gives you 18months at 0%. one of the deals going on right now is : http://slickdeals.net/f/4921496-S...9-99-each? but yes, i do recommend that you accompany them to the store because the employees try to sell you all sorts of addons you don't need. any way to talk her into a used unit from one of the re-stores? I was there looking for cabinets and found some very nice looking top loaders.
I spent days convincing my wife to let me buy a used dryer from a buddy that he wasn't using. $50 and we used it for about 10 years before getting the front loaders upstairs in the closet. Best $50 I ever spent. Amazed at how much a front load dryer is the same but with lights, bells and whistles for those that hate spelling mistakes www.walmarts.com

I buy ALL of my appliances used. Our washer just quit after 10 years, and I had bought it for $50 and it was from the 70's. Had to go buy another used washer, this time from the late 80's and the price had went up to $125. My dryer, same thing- it cost $50 and have had it for 10 years now. I got an AWESOME black wall oven for $75 at a thrift store when the last element went out of my original white 1975 one. Also at the same time at the thrift store, found a counter stainless steel electric stove to replace my ugly original white one for $75.00. And NO tax, and they held them for me to make sure they would fit. Best $175 ever spent!!!! And my kitchen looks up to date now.

Look to spend under $400 for each unit new/floor model or $250 used/repaired. Make sure the repair units use like new parts and the dryer has auto dry feature to save on energy cost. For new units, try to see if local stores will price match against Fry's and other places with lower prices. Lowe's offers a 10-20% moving coupon too. Avoid Haier. Go with Top-Loading Washers from Whirlpool, Kenmore, Maytag, Roeper.
