Hello all, my wife is expecting our first baby in December. So we are shopping for our first safey seats.
Which one of these is for newly born, say from 1-18 month? I check on the Radian ones and those seem to be too big right? Any help will be most apprecaited ![]() Dave |

I have a 20 month old who is in a Britax Marathon 65 CS now, and expecting another one in Sept. I have a Chicco infant carseat for the baby already. Do you suggest jumping on this deal and get 2 Dionos now? I was looking at the RXT. Is it worth the extra $? TIA. |

I went from the Orbit to a Britax to finally the Diono that I just purchased. My daughter is now almost 3 and the Britax is too confining for her. |

If you look at the warranty, it is only 1 year. Also some car seats have expiration dates but should be good for your second child that is about to be born. You can use the chico and the Britax for the next 6 months or so until you transition your child from the chick to the Britax. At that time you first child should be ready for the Diono. If you have 2 cars you can put 1 in each and when they grow up you can put both in a car. So in a way it is worth buying it now if you want to buy a convertible booster. |

Do you think my son is ready for the Diono now? I'm just hesitant about spending that much $ on 2 car seats. If he can use the Diono now, I might just sell the Britax on CL |

A Britax convertible is a terrible choice for a newborn. Britax convertibles have high bottom slots and don't properly fit babies until they are 6-10 months old, depending upon the torso height of the child. Once they are big enough, the Britax seats are great. They're not some magical brand that puts your child in an unbreakable bubble of protection, but they are very good car seats. Infant only bucket seats make it easier on the parents. That's their purpose (Preemies being an exception here.) in a nutshell. It's easier to get them in and out of the car, and you won't wake them up as often, which is a BIG deal for new parents! However, the seats are heavy, and as your baby gets older and heavier, most parents quit using them because it just gets to be a chore lugging the seat and kid around, and this tends to happen around 10-18 months. So I totally disagree that you cannot use the Radian rear facing, as it is the car seat that allows children to rear face the longest that is sold today. High top slots and 45 lbs! The True Fit convertibles are also great seats from birth. I own one, as well as a Radian, and I like it a lot. It is however a HUGE car seat, especially compared to how narrow the Radian's are. You're going to use a lot back seat space with a True Fit, but you can take off the head rest to get a shorter front to back fit. The True Fit will rear face to 40 lbs, and has high top slots, albeit not quite as tall as the Radian. It forward faces to 65 lbs, and cannot become a booster seat. It also expires sooner than the Radian. It's a very good seat, and is less expensive, and may fit your vehicle (if a smaller vehicle) better rear facing. All are great seats, which is why I posted the lot of them, and you won't go wrong with any choice. I think the Radian will last you longer if it fits. Wineaux

Seeing how the RXTs are sold out now, I'll just wait until baby is ready for the Boulevard (I put the wrong model down first time) to get another convertible/booster combo for my son. I'll keep the Diono Radian in mind for then. I was concerned because it seems like his head is almost where the Boulevard's height is. I already have him forward facing so I can't go back to rear facing now (I know.. I know.. that was not a good idea). Thanks so much for all your help. |
