This is currently the cheapest price on THIS fan. Yes, I agree, it seems like a lot to pay for a fan, but there's nothing invalid about this post if you happen to be in the market for this particular model. If you've got a cheaper alternative that's a tower fan and Vornado quality I'd love to see is as I'm in the market.

you clearly have not shopped for tower fans. they are actually really expensive. this is a quality brand with a great warranty. find a cheaper deal on THIS fan, and laugh all you want.

I'm not thumbing down, but I have a $30 black and decker tower fan that I've had for years without issue. Mine only has 3 speeds. This is a lot to pay for a fan, but tower fans are kind of nice in the right situation. They are pretty quiet, but what they usually lack is any sort of vertical adjustment.

I was in the same boat as you and thought that paying these sorts of prices for a Vornado was ridiculous...until I owned one, that is.

I've had a $10 oscillating fan for the last 8 years. Unless you have that thing blowing directly at you, the fan really did not do much to cool a room down. We had an exceptionally hot day a few weekends ago such that I had to run the a/c all day. I read all of the raving reviews about Vornado air circulators and decided to try one out - paid a little under $60 for the mid-size model (circulates air up to 75 feet). The large size models (circulates air up to 100 feet) go for $90-$100 at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

Now, I can noticeably feel the living room being a few degrees cooler than before (when compared to my cheap $10 fan). I'd say that the Vornado makes the room a lot more bearable and comfortable. In fact, when we run the A/C, we are able to keep the temp on the A/C a few degrees higher than before, which will end up saving hundreds in electricity bills over the year.

With the Vornado, I just placed it in a corner, pointed it about 1/2 or 3/4 of the way up the opposite wall, and let it do its thing.

After a few weeks of ownership, I admit that I still feel strange spending $60 on a fan. However, when I think about the energy savings over the year, I believe that the cost is justified.

This fan routinely sells for $99. I was just getting ready to buy one using the bed bath and beyond 20% off, so this is better.

Thanks for a very informative post. Thmbs up!! This really helps someone looking for an alternative to a ceiling fan. If you have low ceilings, you have no option but to go with a room circulator instead of a fan blowing squarely on your face.

I had one of the cheaper tower fans a couple years ago, and that thing was utter garbage...noisy, wobbly, cheap materials, poor construction. I'm sure there are exceptions, but I'd rather buy it once for $70 and have it for many years instead of replacing poor performing "deals" over and over again.

$8 shipping isn't thrilling...but the 10% off coupon more than took that out. $74.90 shipped, about ten bucks cheaper than anyplace else I could find it.
