It says it will be "free" for 7 guaranteed years, so even if you only get those 7 years that $300 comes out to $3.57/month. Pretty good deal even with that steep construction fee.

They are going thru the midwest first I think since we have no 4G and its far easier to lay down the fibre lines.... I hope they come to Nebraska first... our Governor is offering a shit ton of tax breaks for Google to lure them here!

I'm all for new infrastructure but if an internet/TV combo comes in at a price which almost doubles what I am currently paying (in Kansas City), they can keep it, IMHO... I don't mean to TC. I'm just sayin...

Maybe, maybe not. It's all a question of $$$ and Verizon does not want to pay.

If Google Fiber does become successful, do you all think Verizon, ATT, Comcast, and all the other ISPs can compete with them? Will we probably see cease and desist orders from the big ISPs? Or can we expect them to lower their prices?

Wow internet and television in Kansas City is cheap, maybe this current Google Fiber is not as competitive as I thought it would be.

Hopefully this push by Google will encourage other ISP's to bump up their service (and lower the prices). OTOH, it's kind of scary how big Google is getting now. If there ISP role continues branching out, they pretty much own the entire interweb. Not to mention they have their hands in software, OS'es, and tons of other gadgets. Hopefully they stay on the up and up.

FYI KC, MO is a crappy place to live.

Now, if you have a few grand layin' around, you should probably buy an investment prop out there.

Just for this, once the area is urbanized you could perhaps make killer monies.
