They are going thru the midwest first I think since we have no 4G and its far easier to lay down the fibre lines.... I hope they come to Nebraska first... our Governor is offering a shit ton of tax breaks for Google to lure them here! SlickDeals for 2012:

I'm all for new infrastructure but if an internet/TV combo comes in at a price which almost doubles what I am currently paying (in Kansas City), they can keep it, IMHO... I don't mean to TC. I'm just sayin...

If Google Fiber does become successful, do you all think Verizon, ATT, Comcast, and all the other ISPs can compete with them? Will we probably see cease and desist orders from the big ISPs? Or can we expect them to lower their prices? Last edited by Nollywood; 07-26-2012 at 10:25 AM.. |

Hopefully this push by Google will encourage other ISP's to bump up their service (and lower the prices). OTOH, it's kind of scary how big Google is getting now. If there ISP role continues branching out, they pretty much own the entire interweb. Not to mention they have their hands in software, OS'es, and tons of other gadgets. Hopefully they stay on the up and up.
