That's a fantastic price. Never seen that CPU in that server this cheap. You can always add RAM later...just my opinion. VMware VMs tend to use RAM more efficiently than physicals imho.

Was just about to buy a used rack server off eBay but for the same price I'll give this Fujitsu a try. Looks like everything is esxi 5 compatible minus the software raid. Now all we need is a good deal on some 8gb ecc memory.

Has 2 PCI-e x8 slots. Has 1 PCI-e x4 slot. Has 1 PCI-e x1 slot. This is a server, not a workstation/gaming/home machine. |

It's not too hard to setup but pretty much only managed switches costing $$$ support that feature. |

Need a pair for a lab for Oracle RAC for learning. Need 2 NICs for RAC implementation. Question is, how noisy are these?

For general benchmarks you can look here and compare: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html Seems pretty good. If you are just hosting files then you don't really need a hardcore processor anyways. |

I sure with Newegg had some "reserve in cart" feature -- just for 10-15 minutes would be nice.
I hate it when I got something in my cart.. all logged-in, coupon code entered, do a bit of net research before confirming.. and... gone! Argh!!!. for all the money I send you guys, please give me a break!] |

Aarrgggghhh. I was waiting for someone to post noise feedback. Bummer. Researching did not yield any real world reviews on how noisy these are and now they're gone.

I got myself totally sold on the CPU (which sells for $200 on its own) and the whole system. It is a 32nm CPU which is current (not an older one which would mean it burns a lot more power and heat for the same performance). I really really decided to buy one of these, and.. checkout failed due to OOS. So annoying. |
