Lenovo G570 4334EGU Laptop, Intel Pentium B950, 15.6" Screen, 4GB Memory, 320GB Hard Drive, W7 Home Premium, webcam: $259 @ Fry's *No Longer Available For Shipping*

I just placed an order and I got an email a few minutes ago saying it's not ready for pickup because it's not available.

I checked the status of my order online and it also said item not available.

What do I do now? I don't get if I'm supposed to wait for a new shipment or wait for a cancellation...

Considering going to the store like the guy above..

edit: just price matched to best buy because i don't want to run around Fry's...lady over the phone was nice.

Picked up the laptop on Friday evening. The laptop is lightweight and boots up less than a minute and it seemed pretty good for a celeron processor. Lenova has some pretty good features like OneKey rescue system(restore to factory by pressing one key), Facial recognition on this laptop. My only complaint is the graphics which is kind of very low compared to a number of newer laptops. 1366X768 is the max resolution available on this model. My other HP laptop which is 5 years old has very good graphics compare to this one. When I played animated videos on youtube this Lenovo seemed like it was trying too hard to play the picture and I can still see those fuzzy lines around the border of the image. However, the webpages appeared alright and did not notice any significant difference in the quality infact the pages loaded much faster.
Overall a good value for $259 + tax.

I'm still looking for that 25% coupon that was mentioned up thread. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me where it's located.

Yep, those $250 Lenovo V570 i5 had the spider sense ringing "Too Good to Be True" and "Cans of Refurb. Worms". For repairs, Lenovo is close to useless since all they do is reformat your hard drive and some of the hardware/software problems aren't addressed.

As an aside, so far the G570 looks to be a quite capable laptop.

After dropping in 8 MB of ram (picked up Corsair 2 x 4 GB kit for $35 after MIR), the Aero Graphics score on the Windows Experience jumped from 4.6 to 5.1.

Also for anyone else who wants to do a Windows clean install, it is very easy:
1) Boot from the Windows 64-bit installation.
2) Select complete install and choose the large partition (e.g. ~250Gb)
* do NOT reformat the entire disk (or, be sure to copy the files on the D:\ drive to USB first)
* It will warn you that the existing windows files will be stored in a windows-old directory (that is OK)
3) It will install with no issue but several critical drivers will be missing.
* Open device manager, then open properties of the device that is not installed
* Choose "re-install driver", select "have disk" and browse to D:\Drivers (selecting 'search subdirectories')
* This will pick up drivers for all but one "unknown" device related to energy management

<at this point, you can finally have access to the internet... the critical Atheros network drivers are part of what you will have just installed>

4) Go to www.lenovo.com, browse to support for G570 (4334) model
* Download and install the application for Energy Management
* That application will pull in the driver to the unknown device

At this point, you have a clean install with no Lenovo bloatware. If you want, you can add in other applications like their cheese face recognition (not so hot with such lame webcam... but YMMV).


p.s. the steps above keep the existing hard drive. You wind up with 250 GB usable drive; which for many people is more than sufficient. If you want to replace the hard drive, please note that it uses the THIN version of a 2.5" drive. (included drive is a Seagate; sorry I did not write down model number).

p.p.s. from what i can tell, this is a 6Gb/sec bus so you can also slam in a full speed SSD for another ~$120. Total cost of $260 laptop + $35 for 8 GB RAM + $120 for 180GB SSD = not too shabby of a deal.

Hmmm.... I thought this only supported 4GB of ram. You say you have 8GB installed? Link to the ram you bought?

Based on the support [lenovo.com] page: 4gb per slot (2x) so you could have 8gb of ram
