Looking for a portable vid cam to record baby moments
hi, i'm looking for a portable vid cam to record baby moments. I'm consideringthis one Flip Mino Video Camera - Black, 2 GB,1 Hour (1st Generation) [amazon.com] and would really like to stay under $100, thank you for any suggestions! I would also like this vid cam to last into recording toddler and kids moments down the road, doesn't need to be fancy, but need to record longer than 1 minute which is all my point and shoot can handle and my Nikon SLR doesn't do video. Thanks! Have BTFE, a few inserts a week, several PCs to print IPQs, please PM for trades, thanks!

The one you linked to has no AC adapter, so that could be a problem.
Here are a couple you can look at Kodak Playsport Zx5 Video Camera - Office Max [officemax.com] (if its available at your local store) or Amazon [amazon.com] Flip Ultra Camcorder 2nd Generation, 120 Minutes [amazon.com] |
Thanks so much for pointing that out and also for the Kodak suggestion. Now the Kodak one, or any of these mini portable camcorders, does it matter if I buy refurbished/used? I just bought a tablet (my 1st one) refurbished but I'm not sure it's ok to do the same with camcorders? Thanks again and repped! |

I would go with this sony one.
This is way better than the flip that you linked and its the same low price. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bloggi...=camcorder The one you linked doesnt record HD video And only records 60minutes of vga video. has a smaller screen too 1.7in vs 3.0inch. The sony also records 4hours of HD video it also should take great still pictures with its 12.8megapixel camera. Last edited by oyouno; 07-27-2012 at 01:48 PM.. |
Thank you all for the various vid camera suggestions, I will go through and read reviews and see which one fits my needs and budget the best, I have basically no experience with vid cam, besides those taken w/a P&S camera, so I will have to read then decide. Appreciate all the advice and will rep now. |

I've used a Kodak Playful and consider it quite good. Whether something else is better at this size/price, I don't know.
http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-PlayF...k+playfull The 1080 looks nice, but at 30fps action/panning can suffer. 720p 60fps is the sweet spot. Looks good and can handle more movement. It's not that the 1080 is bad, it's just that if there's a lot of movement it's like watching a basketball game on a 1080 30fps TV channel versus watching one a 720p TV channel. It says there's a newer version that's waterproof, and it's cheaper than this version. I don't know about that one. Don't get the first gen Flip. They apparently have a habit of dying after about a year, of which I can attest to. I don't know about the second gen. Oh yeah, and removable/expandable memory trumps built-in memory. If you're using memory cards and run out of room, just put in another card. If you can only use built-in memory and run out of room, you're screwed. Thank you for all the good advice, yes, I know about the need for expandable/removable memory since I do shoot with a SLR a lot. |

Here's one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200799031...1497.l2649
It's $35 shipped. I actually ordered it a few days ago as a gift for someone. You have to remember though 1saleaday takes a while to ship. I'll probably get it in another week or so. I also own the PlaySport and the Zi8 from Kodak and I'm very satisfied with their video cameras. They all use SD cards which are cheap and extra batteries also very cheap ($3 shipped at Ebay). Accessory kits and remote controls are also cheap. |
thanks again for the links and great tips on the SD cards and batteries. I bought a tablet from 1saleaday recently and it arrived ok and everything so I'm ok buying from them again (via paypal). sorry didn't see your response till now as you didn't quote my question, but thanks all the same! repped!
