Replacing WebStar cable Modem with Linksys CM100
I have a WebStar modem with RoadRunner service and the thing has been a royal PIB. At times it seems to stop and I have no internet service. have called RR and they say everything looks good and there is no problem. I have had enough. I have been complaining to RR for 3-4 years and they have replaced the modem and I still have the same problems. I have purchased a Linksys CM100 modem and may install that. I am not seeing that this modem has max sppeds of 100 MB but my computers have GB internet. I have a Dlink 655 router so will I receive GB speeds? Should I just scrap the CM100 and get something else?

It's no big deal that your modem has a 100MB port because your downstream speed won't even come close to that.

What seems to happen is if I click to move to a web page and look at the modem the send and receive lights are not flashing as it did with my past modem. I then get a message that I have no internet. |

with dayv that it reads more like an externa interference issue on your line.What is your line configuration looking like? What is the SNR? What is the downstream power level? What is the upstream power level? I'm not accustomed to the Linksys CM100 to know what page that is on within its diagnostic pages. |

looks like it doesn't happen often to you. when they do work on the lines or upgrades it causes areas to reset. you can look at more detailed stuff too: http://192.168.100.1/_aslvl.asp Username: admin Password: W2402 keep bugging them till they send a tech out. or threaten to quit. i'm not sure sawpping out the modem would help you. but i am no expert. |
