Some have said that it's possible to unlock the second core via BIOS. I don't know if this mobo will be able to do it.

will this take four 4TB harddrive on raid 10 to get 8TB.. 4TB is not dected on several system like previous Fujitsu scaleo machine

Define good? This only has a 250W power supply so anything requiring added power plug is probably out of the question.

It doesn't appear clear if this server supports IOMMU allowing for virtualization and passthrough.. which is what most people who are buying these for virtualized SANs would need. Of note. the N40L doesn't support it either, while the older n36L did.

A single core is somewhat worrisome if you're going to run any VMware/citrix hypervisors on it. If you're buying it for a HTPC.. whatever. It's good, because it has more pcie slots than the N40L.

Personally, it looks like I'll just have to wait for the G8 of the HP Microserver line.

This is a good deal, just not for virtualization purposes.. correct me if I'm wrong,
-if it does support IOMMU. (i know the sempron 145 does, but the board has to as well, and it needs to be an option thus enabled in the BIOS)
-if it can hold more than just the 4 drives

I don't know IOMMU, but it does say it is certified for Win2k8R2 & Hyper-V. Apparently this is their lowest spec with the least powerful CPU and least spacious HD, but the doc that it can support Opteron chips so would that be a possibility for you to upgrade (if it's even worth the hassle)?

Totally not the same.. and hyper-v isn't exactly a sought after solution nor is it likely to support pass-through without IOMMU. AMD-V yes, sure but not IOMMU.

That's like comparing apples and oranges. N40L is popular because of the smaller size and ease of access to the hard drives to make into a half decent file server. For people who need these for file server duties, this one won't hold a candle upto the N40L. Just sayin ...

So, N40L is better than this server. Move on folks for better N40L. I missed $99 deal from Amazon. Actually, I didn't know about N40L and also wasn't interested since I have NAS already.
