I actually bought this on sunday and found that same code myself at retailmenot. This is a very good price for a very good receiver based on my research. I am very excited about the dynamic volume feature for watching tv. You can't even find this model refurbished for less...

I have this model and love it. Highly recommended.

Only two minor annoyances. I'm not sold on how effective the dynamic volume feature is. It is a great idea in theory, but there are still certain commercials and one of the local news channels that come blaring through like crazy. Also, the remote sensor is a little particular and you need to get a fairly straight-on angle in order for it to work.

Don't let any of that faze you though. For the price, this was easily the best receiver I could get and it hasn't let me down at all.

If you need an AVR, go for it. My Denon 1700 is still rocking along, and I won't be buying a new one until it croaks, God forbid.

I believe another annoyance is the lack of a second set of speaker outputs that used to be standard on ALL receivers up to very recently. Now, they utilize a Zone2 feature which has its good and bad points.
If you have a second set of speakers like I do out on my deck, you can hook them up as Zone2, but be ready for unnecessary complicated-ness and I believe you cannot even make simple tone control adjustments to the Zone2 speakers.
Wish they would have simply kept the simple feature of Speaker 2/Speaker B outputs.

Been looking for a deal on something around this range, thanks! Now to find a deal on a BIC PL200...

Macmall has a refurb 1612 for $167. I know refurb isn't the same as new, but they offer a 1 year manufacturers warranty. I jumped on this instead.

I'm going to be buying 2 nice tower speakers soon (polk M70s or something similiar/better). I want these in my living room for music purposes and basic TV (not movie surround)...what sort of reciever shoudl I get to power them ? All I ever see is these surround sound receivers...I'd like to get something where I can give each tower some serious juice instead of these little 70 watt per channel amps...somebody steer me in the right direction and I got reps to give

Good price. Purchased mine from Amazon w/Prime a couple months back for $200. This receiver brought everything to life in my home. Was using an older Yamaha AVR for 5 years and this Denon blows that one away with its sound and features!!!

Im running Denon 1913 that has 90 watts per channel and it is wonderful (it might be a little too much power). For your purposes, 70 watts should be plenty enough since your only running 2 tower speakers (make sure you put it on the LARGE instead of the SMALL) . This AVR is perfect, and you can always upgrade for the future. I used to own HK 1600 that only has 50 watts per channel and it powers my tower speakers with plenty enough juice to blast my music.
