Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS - $800

I'm working with a T2I w/ 10-22/17-55/50mm 1.4. Best setup ever

I'm not trying to pick a fight... but I was telling him to ignore you. The focal range of the 18-135 is nice... but that is about the last nice thing I can say about it.... actually, it does have IS... so 2 nice things.

I really don't think there is an improvement in regards to picture quality with the 18-135. I actually feel a little bad every time I sell one for around 300 bucks. I also feel bad when I sell a 75-300mm, but that is a different story.

I know people really like their equipment so I'm not trying to tell you that you are wrong. But when people outgrow their present lenses, it is usually to get better low light performance, better picture quality, or better focal range. Your suggestion only satisfies one of those requirements, and it really doesn't improve his range at the wide end... so I'll put an asterisk on that 1.

In about a month or two I'll have a 24-105mm f/4L IS, 50mm f/1.4, and a 70-200mm f/2.8L IS.

I don't do a lot in the wide focal lengths... but I am seriously considering a fish eye... but it depends on if Viggle goes out of business or not.

Tell you what, I bought a Canon 10-22mm on July 5th. Less than half a month later it is in someone else's house already. I thought I like 10ish length before the buy, but soon found I did not.
One does not have to have every mm length for his camera.

Huh? You say that, with no further explanation, and then your very next sentence is a exact rephrasing of what I just said.

His stated goal is bang for the buck, and I stand by my comment that the 18-135 in the best bang for the buck lens Canon makes, with the possible exception of the 50/1.8. Yes, we're in a thread about an L lens, but he's obviously not in the market for that.

Just want to say, "I'm going fishing."

Tamron makes good products... but if you are considering resale at all, I think Canon holds its value better. IF you know of anyone who might be eligible for the Tamron educational rebate... you might be able to save a little more. Do a google search for it... education program... something or other. EPP.


I hear the 24-70 is a great lens, but it is just heavy as balls (iron ones I presume). I think this is one of the best value lenses available in the L series... and that is partly because there are so many made as they are included as a kit lens with the 5dmk ii and iii.

hi all, i'm planning to get this lens.. so let's say something goes wrong with the lens 6 months from now... can I still send this lens back to canon to get it fix, directly?

Even though this is a grey market item, will canon still fix it, if I'm willing to pay for it?

*in other words, under the normal 1 year warranty, they will fix it for free.. but since this is a grey market item, will they even touch it, even though i'm willing to pay to get it fixed?

thanks for your post preppyak, i think squaretrade would be nice to have if that's the case...esp with accidental warranty. 3 years for about 100 dollars. you can't beat $800 for these lens. idk!! this is sooo hard.

Agreed. I tell people all the time that the kit lens is only a stepping stone... to a really expensive hobby.
