GUN: Sig 226 9mm $699.95

I just bought the P220 deal from Bud's, but otherwise I would look closer at this deal. Thanks for posting.

This is roughly 50-80 dollars cheaper than most places. The pistol typically retails in California for 780, in this configuration (Nitron Finish, with contrast sights), before tax.

A great quality pistol in 9mm, a slightly modified version is the model that is standard issue for Navy SEALS (though my understanding is that they can change if they wish). Sig Sauers have some of the best quality Double Action and Single Action triggers out of the box for a stock duty pistol in the DA/SA configs.

Palmetto is also a quality store and I have no problems in probably 30-40 orders through them. Remember that this will need to be shipped and transferred through a Federal Firearms License (FFL), figure between 25-100 dollars additionally for costs. Dealer Record of Sale (DROS) adds another $25 for a new pistol.

I have the 226 chambered in 40 and I absolutely love it. I had a friend try to talk me into buying his glock, until I actually shot it...Difference between Sig and Glock (or any other low budget weapon) is night and day. Great price as well

Although it doesn't specify, these normally come standard with 2 mags. At least mine did that I bought locally.

This is a daily deal that ends at midnight at palmetto state armory for the Sig Sauer P226 for $699. This is the cheapest I have seen this gun and it's one of my "must have" future purchases.

Most new Sigs only come with one extra mag now, and crappier ones at that (made by CheckMate in the US vs. the old ones made by MecGar in Italy, cost cutting thing by Sig, where slight changes in design in the lips of the mag and the follower were causing people to have FTF issues with the CheckMate mags. I dumped all of my CheckMates and bought MecGars, got the MecGars cheaper by far than the crappier Sig mags, and they are the same size and higher capacity to boot (sometimes 3 rds higher capacity, yet still flush mount). As a bonus they have a better coating too IMO, smoother to load, and more wear resistance.

Also, I would recommend looking for a deal on a Sig .40 or .357 Sig 226 instead, given with a drop in barrel from Bar-Sto (which are better barrels than stock Sig barrels by a decent margin) and a couple 9mm mags, for $220 or less you just converted your .40 into also being able to shoot 9mm. Cannot go the other way though, you buy a 9mm sig 226/229 you cannot convert UP. With the .40, you can also buy a drop in straight from Sig for a bit over a hundred(or from Bar-Sto for more if you want a top of the line Barrel), and use the stock mags (which are designed to reliably feed .357 Sig and .40), and you now have a pistol that can shoot 3 calibers.

I did this with my 226 and 229, and can now shoot 3 calibers from each for not much of an additional investment, which is GREAT given the price difference between the 3 calibers(4 for my 226 if you count my .22 conversion kit). I shoot mostly 9m when zeroing, working on my technique, etc., then can switch to .40 / .357 Sig to slightly adjust given the hotter, heavier rounds, given those are the calibers I carry with vs. 9mm.

Is this deal available in .40/.357 Sig? If so I would get that one instead. I have seen 226's and 229s new go cheaper that were .357 Sig I am assuming because they sat on the shelf too long given no one wanted a weapon with ammo that expensive, not knowing how flexible the platform is.

This is a very good deal on a great gun and Palmetto State Armory is an excellent company to deal with, before, during and most importantly, AFTER the sale. I'd be tempted to grab this at this price if it came with Sig Nite Sites--I don't think Sig's "High Contrast" sights are night sites (Tritium) although for most purposes, compared to most handgun sights, I'm sure they're better than average.

There are many variations of the Sig 226, some of which will cost upwards to twice of this, and that's from the factory. One of the great things about this gun (and some of the Smith and Wesson M&P handguns such as the 40 caliber) is that the Sig 226 can easily be converted to shoot different caliber ammo, using readily available Sig parts and do so with very high reliability and accuracy. Another nice touch is after you've invested in a Sig 226, it's very easy to save up, buy and switch the scales (grips) to rosewood or whatever exotic material that 'suits your fancy should you desire'.

Some people don't want to take the time to disassemble and reconfigure weapons--they just want it 'as is', ready to shoot the way they want it and have it go 'bang' everytime. But most Sig owners are a bit more sophisticated than the average gun owner and many find the option of interchangibility very attractive in a gun of this quality. Regardless of caliber and magazine, to the best of my knowledge, all the 226 models weigh in at 34 ounces and their balance and ergonomics are all quite similar--excellent.

Just so you folks know what your options are, I'm adding this as a possible optional choice. I think whichever 226 you go with, you'll be very happy. I think Sig Sauer, like many other gun manufacturers, sold themselves short on their cheaper entry level weapons, riding on their laurels (like Kahr), but on the 226, they really hit a sweet spot,making a gun that's accurate and built to last for generations--an 'instant classic' if you will, without costing as much as their 229. I'd dare say they outdo Kimber for less money..

I can never tell what's actually a good gun deal because all the slobbering gun nuts TU every gun thread to the moon whether it's a good deal or not.
