SNES Emulator - Windows 7

Why not use motionjoy, and if required, xpadder? No need to hunt for a particular emulator for controller support, unless you require bluetooth for other devices or do not have a compatible bluetooth device.

If you didn't already know, motionjoy is a PS3 controller driver for the PC and xpadder will allow you to use controllers in games that do no support controllers (it maps keyboard and mouse keys to the controller). If you use the last free xpadder, you will have to run in Vista compatibility mode.

I ran zsnes(iirc) on my tablet and it had built in support to connect a wiimote.. I assumed there would be a program like that floating around for win7...

motionjoy requires driver signature to be disabled on Windows boot...cause the drivers are unsigned (they didn't want to pay MS for the signed signature)

at least it did last year when i played around with it.

Pretty sure that all the bluetooth controller stuff can be setup in windows. At that point snes9x or zsnes will just see it as a normal controller to map buttons.

Pairing a ps3 controller is a pain, just a warning.

Yeah i remember it being a pain when I researched it a few years ago.. SNES9x is what I used on my tablet.. and zsnes on my windows pc with a usb snes controller.

I want to go wireless now so I can play off hdmi on a tv.

Ill try it that way instead of an all in one type package

They recently acquired signed signatures maybe no more than a year ago. I think I read that they received a good amount of donations to actually pay for it. No more tricks to get the drivers to work now.

As far as I know, there are no official drivers for the PS3 controller so the controller will not function as a controller in Windows. Windows can see that the device plugged in is a PS3 controller though, which is why motionjoy is required for its usage.

As for pairing, it just requires a compatible bluetooth receiver. It screws with the native Windows drivers so that particular bluetooth receiver will have new motionjoy drivers and will only work with the PS3 controller. I bought some cheap receiver from ebay and it works fine.

If you have a Wiimote/classic controller, I'm assuming you have a Wii? If that's the case, and you're trying to play on your TV, what about softmodding it, if you haven't already? They make an SNES emulator for it and it works really well with the classic controller.

I travel a lot for work, so this is for when I'm in hotel rooms mostly, or on the airplane.

I have an asus transformer which serves this purpose beautifully, but since I just bought one of them ultraportable laptops I'm thinking of selling off my tablet.

You could just get a wired 360 or ps3 controller. They work fine without having to tweak anything. Even the wireless adapter for a 360 controller would work for you.

If you are using this for travel on a laptop, a wire shouldn't be that bad to work with.

Might go that route, but I already have the bluetooth wiimote/classic controller combo that I was using with my tablet.

I like wireless just cause I lay on the hotel bed and play on their LCD via HDMI.. I figure something out, even going the wired route (I have a usb snes controller anyway laying around somehweres)

Getting your DS3 to run with Motioninjoy is a fairly straightforward affair now as long as your BT cockle plays nice (the Asus BT211 which can frequently be had FAR works well). However, as long as the MIJ driver is installed you can only pair the DS3, other BT devices won't jive. This is on a desktop - no idea how things play out on a lappy with onboard BT.

Other option is just to buy a long ass USB cable on the cheap and use the DS3 like a wired controller (again, through MIJ) - this way you're utilizing an existing resource without dicking around with your BT drivers...

hmm never had this issue when playing snes on my tablet with snes9x..
I may just go wired.. ps3 controller is out, so wired or wii controller are my two options

I use ZSNES with a 360 controller (connected via the wireless PC adapter made by Microsoft). You can get the adapter on Amazon for like $19 or less in new condition. The ZSNES program has built in functions to set up the 360 controller's buttons. It works flawlessly on my PC.
