Micro ATX power supply
Hi, I am trying to find a micro atx power supply for my HTPC, that makes around 400 watts...Unfortunately, the power supply I could find that fits my criteria is no longer in production, the Ultra X4 Micro ATX power supply. I see some other power supplies like an Athena 400 watt micro atx but have not heard good things about them...I saw a Diablotek 380 watt power supply, but then I read some bad things about them on here...so what would be a good 400 watt micro atx power supply?

Unlike standard power supplies, there are very few commercially available units available right now... I am just wondering if anybody in this community might have other suggestions..that is all. |

There is really no size standard for "micro ATX power supply" but newegg has a section with 8 choices (3 of them are at or above 400W):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...icro%20ATX SFX group might also be possible to find what you need, though they don't come in the same size either: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...ame=SFX12V I would check the dimensions even before reading through the reviews. Not all HTPC power supply compartment has the same size. Better to just post the dimension of what the HTPC requires for the power supply and start from there. Diablotek is garbage. Here's a JonnyGuru review of a 1050W Diablotek [jonnyguru.com] that couldn't put out more than 598W and a HardOCP review of a 650W Diablotek [hardocp.com] that popped a fuse in a minute when loaded to 467W (the review considered it more like a lousy 300W PSU).
This JonnyGuru review of a 400W Athena TFX style PSU [jonnyguru.com] said it performed adequately but had a major flaw in its mechanical design or assembly. For something like this, it may be cheaper to buy a rebuilt replacement from a major computer company, like Dell or Gateway, as they tend to use better quality manufacturers, such as Delta, HiPro/Chicony, Silverstone/Etasis, Sirfa/Enermax, Channel Well Technology, and Fortron-Source Power (FSP, or Sparkle). If you buy a power supply elsewhere, look for manufactures like these, which produce products under other brand names as well. Better yet, don't buy HTPC boxes that can't accept standard power supplies and motherboards. |

Your HTPC is pulling 400W? No offense but you clearly need to learn how to design an HTPC.
But yeah, microATX PSUs are tough to find. You might want another form factor and rig it into your case. I

It would be very helpful if you would state the brand and model of your machine. We would then be able to help you with the research.
