Had to call in to override some erroneous multiple rebates invalidation. We'll see, but this doesn't seem typical for staples

FYI
My in-store purchase didn't print with a rebate, so I mailed one in WITH a copy of my ID, store receipt, and rebate form. Showed up as invalid on the tracker, so I called CSR. They said it was the online purchase rebate form, not the in-store form. They switched it on the phone, and no further verification or mailing needed to be done on my part.

Thought I'd share. No need to go to the store or re-buy the laptop.

Anyone put an SSD in this laptop? Any special requirements as to drive that will or won't fit properly? Looking at the OCZ Vertex 3...

The SSD including cradle options have been discussed throughout the thread. Read back.

My rebate check arrived today. If you opted for a check rather than a Visa card check your mail carefully. The check is actually a post card (and not on particularly heavy weight card stock) that can get stuck in something else and easily lost. If you live where your mail is not secure this is not a good option. Next Staples rebate I will choose Paypal. I did not notice Paypal was an option when I chose payment by check. I figure it will be faster and I will not have to watch my mail so closely.

It has been 9 days since I received my "your check is in the mail" email notification. That does seem a bit long. It took a month and 3 days to receive from the date I submitted on line. If I look at it from the day after my return period expired and the status changed from processing to validation complete on August 18 that was 19 days/ just short of three weeks.

Total cost is now officially $435 or $394 plus tax. I've watched other laptop deals since I purchased. For the specs, this remains the least expensive for those qualified for the student discount.

This is what I just did.

1. Submitted the Easy Rebate via https://www.stapleseasyrebates.com/

2. The electronic submission of the rebate did not ask for student ID so I suspect something was wrong. I chatted with an adviser and they said:

"Mail in a cover letter with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, tracking number and the rebate offer number."

Therefore, I will mail the requested documentation and the rebate processors will be able to match the documentation to my rebate number online.

3. They approve the rebate and process it.

for those still submitting your rebate BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
because there are 2 DIFFERENT REBATES as one is ONLINE vs IN STORE
there is rebate 12-96391 *YOU WANT TO USE THIS ONE IF YOU BOUGHT IN STORE
vs
rebate 12-96392 *SAYS U NEED TO SEND IN ID (ONLINE)
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
cliffs if u purchased in store
1-go to the website and put in the correct rebate 12-96391 (when i went to the store, i was given a long receipt, but it only showed the windows 7 upgrade; as he printed me out a physical paper form to send in, the paper form number is the same 12-96391; what was confusing was that i was worried that the the numbers on the bottom of the receipt were different, but they were all the same
2-fill out info
3-chill
#######-lady on the phone basically said and i have her name and badge if u told me that as long as its submitted before the 60days you are basically good. if there is an issue, then they will notify you and they most likely will allow for correction to be made ie;used 12-96392 then send in photoid with info.
////
whats kind of shady is that the 100 visa is not listed on my receipt, but i was given a form to fill out
SEND THOSE REBATES IN!
I registered for Win 8 with Staples and with Microsoft separate from the offer. I've been watching my emails and have received only the general announcement that Windows 8 has been issued and not how to upgrade. I plan to call Staples next week.
Did anyone figure out what was up? I never got the email either and I thought I had till January to get it. I was just looking and it seems like I needed to have purchased it by Nov. 11 to be eligible... It is hard to tell for sure though because the wording is unclear. I think I'll give Staples a call anyway and see if I can still get it. Just wanted to know what kind of an experience others had.
I called the 800 number to the rebate center and got instructions. Here is what I remember.
Go to windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/upgrade-offer
http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-US
Fill out the form to register. You need your computer serial number and proof of purchase information
An email is sent to you with a code and download instructions.
Here is where I got fuzzy because I have not done the upgrade yet. Once you download Win8 go back to Staples easy rebate center and enter a code on line.
I plan to call Staples once I do the download. I got the Staples rebate center number online.
Hope this is enough to get you started.
Here is how it works guys. You sign up at windowsupgradeoffer to get the discout code to get Windows 8 for $19.99 (+ tax of course). Then when you purchase windows, you will get the key for Windows 8. Then go to https://www.stapleswindowsoffer.com/ and enter your original tracking number and the key microsoft sent you with your purchase and you should get your $15 visa card in the mail 2 - 3 weeks later. I did it a month ago and got my 4 but I had trouble with 3 out of my 4 purchases as the tracking number came up invalid. I used chat and got it all straightened out.
Hello Everyone,
Was just curious if anyone else is having issues with the touchpad on this computer. More recently it has become a bigger issue with it freezing up, I downgraded back to Windows 7 because I read that the issue is less evident in that operating system. After doing my research this issue is hardware based and Lenovo never even covered it under warranty. I'm just posting to see if anyone had any luck fixing it. Thanks.
Never upgraded to Win 8. I'm not having any major issues with the touchpad (knock on wood). That is not to say I like the touchpad. I do not like it at all-- enough that I would not buy another Lenovo because of it. It works but I have to be certain that I hit it the button in just the right place. It drives me nuts but I still prefer it over a mouse.
Overall it has been a good student computer and I've not found anything with equal or better specs for the same money. It is speedy and can handle multitasking. I accidentally opened a folder with 52 tabs without issue. I now do it intentionally. I've not had issues with computer or the touchpad freezing up for no reason. Fortunately, no issues beyond the quirky touchpad and I hope things continue on that way.
Seems to happen whenever you move the computer. If I keep it stationary it seems to be no issue. All it has done is made me use the mouse more often. Otherwise your right, you can't beat this computer.
