Banning of Buckyballs by the CPSC Backstory: Buckyballs are those tiny magnetic balls that are office desk toys, not intended as a toy for a child. That said, over the past few years several children (I think around 20) have ingested the magnetic balls and died, what happens apparently is the magnetic balls will actually attract to each other within the intestine and cause internal damage. Now the CPSC wants to ban these balls. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504763_162-57480531-10391704/buckyballs-ceo-on-cpsc-complaint-how-can-this-happen-in-america/ This is a $50 million company in New York. My opinion: I'm sorry but if we ban buckballs then we should also ban kids being allowed to travel in motor vehicles, remove all electrical outlets from houses (hey some parents don't cover the outlets!), no more cleaning supplies should be sold, and basically your kid should be wrapped up in a bubble pop bag and sealed from the world until they are 18. Parents who let their kids eat bucky balls and subsequently get sick or die should be liable for the death (negligence) same as a parent of a kid who drinks Drain-o or zaps himself in an outlet or falls out a window or hangs himself on a blind cord or drowns in a swimming pool. while I feel for the kids who have been sick from this (it's not their fault), we can't protect all these kids from the idiocy of their parents. The product isn't marketed towards kids, they have warnings all of the box. It's common sense to not give your kids things they can swallow. PS. I am saying this as a brand new parent of a 7 week old at home. I just bought some buckyballs. (which I will keep away from my son). |

Yes, incredibly lame intervention. Firings are in order.

Imagine if you had built the Zen Magnet or Buckyball company and suddenly the government was saying that you could no longer sell your product.... at all.
The IRS was asked to provide itemized receipts detailing how the government was billed $50 million USD for their conferences and conventions. They were unable to find some of those receipts. Link [washingtonexaminer.com]
Funny how if you, or I, or SD.net gets audited by the IRS, we're going to be expected to find receipts for everything. |
