I bought this the last time it was on sale for $35, with the free bit set. I must say it didn't have anywhere near the power I expected and couldn't perform the most mundane of hammering tasks, so I returned it.

Nothing will do as well as trying it out firsthand, so try it for yourself. Make sure to fully charge it; at least that way you'll be able to get the job started and use a real hammer. Good luck!

I'm an Electrician and am considering purchasing one of these for just the reasons you mentioned. How well do you think this would survive regular 'professional' use for the purposes you mentioned? As you can imagine, I use my tools and when it comes to electric tools anything less than Dewalt simply won't last and even Dewalt is generally the least I can spend on something and expect it to work for any length of time. Do you think this bad boy is well made and will last when used regular in a professional setting?

If strong enough, would be good for fixing fence gates where they come apart at the bottom corner. Beats dismounting gate or digging a hole beneath so there's room enough to swing a hammer!!

I've only owned this tool about four months now, but I'm using it while I completely re-wire, at my own pace, a 3000 sq. ft. house + basement. So far, it has not failed me and I'm very happy with my purchase. Craftsman makes another one for $99 that has a rotating head on it, so you can hammer at different angles than just 90 degrees. You may find that one more suitable. I had that one originally, but I figured, for the $60 difference, I could make this one work. I also own the Nextec Multi-tool, which works great for plunge-cutting drywall (although messier) for box placement, so buying this gave me two 12 volt batteries to swap between.
Dewalt makes awesome tools. I'm personally a Milwaukee man. SD had a deal on here for their cordless 18V lithium four tool set + bonus tool about three years ago and they are still going strong (5 year warranty). The impact driver is indispensable. Since that deal, I've bought at least six more of their tools, both cordless and corded. Color me impressed. As with most things, I'm sure you are shaped by your experiences.
I hope this helps in your decision. Like I mentioned previously, buy it and beat the crap out of it for 90 days. If it doesn't hold up, take it back for a refund.
