Here are my recent experiences: - Mid last year, new build, OCZ vertex 2 plus in raid with a kingston ssd. Problems for a week with chkdsks and frequent rebuilds of the array from the kingston. OCZ says bad drive and to pay $12 to ship it in for RMA, except I discover it has bad firmware. Takes 3 months of repeated destructive firmware updates and requirements to isolate the drive in a system with specific configurations to perform the flash updates and secure erases. I end up dropping it on a shelf for 3 months until the firmware updates stop, then it works fine. - Early this year, new build, OCZ ZS power supply. After I rma and go through two of these with shutdown/sleep issues, OCZ admits the power supply is incompatible with my I7/gigabyte z68 setup because it doesn't draw enough power and/or use an outboard gpu. It wont work in a celeron/h61 system either, and OCZ gives me back my money. Along the way the OCZ support forum guys note that they work from home and don't have all OCZ products, including this one, so they can't test/advise anything about it. No escalation, no backup, nobody at ocz with the product I can talk to. I install high current gamer 400w supplies in both machines and both perform flawlessly. - Not long after that, vertex 3 drive I got cheap as a laptop replacement has the same firmware issues, but I didn't submit the rebate (almost everything from ocz has a rebate so you can't return it to the store) so I was able to return it. - Not long after that, I picked up an agility 3 drive and put it in my wifes laptop. No problems for about a month, then the drive slows down by about 75%. No firmware updates, trims enabled, secure erase doesn't resolve it, OCZ stumped. I drop a mushkin drive in and its been fine for months now. As you can see, I'm using these products in a fairly ordinary manner, but they're crap. They remain crap for about six months until the product firmware releases slow down. Contrast this with Intel or Samsung's efforts. Intel spent over a year working on firmware fixes to the same chipset that OCZ uses in their 3rd gen, and they validation test on hundreds of machines in thousands of different configurations. I own one of their drives and never had a problem with it. So yes, its a bold statement, backed up with personal experience and in reading reviews and expert evaluations, they're pretty common. |

Ohhh...so YOU had problems, that means that EVERYONE has problems.
I had had 3 OCZ drives and they've all performed fine with nothing quirky going on. I also have an OCZ power supply and it works fine. YMMV with ANY product. The hatred in these forums for OCZ products is unwarranted. |

I'm considering purchasing a second OCZ drive for some reason after my vertex plus just failed, but the more I read the less inclined I am to do so. |
