I tend to agree. I made a few lunch runs there back in the early '90s and didn't think it was that great.....of course it didn't help that it was "order at 1 window, pick up at the other" and wasn't in the best part of town. I remember reading about all awards and never understood it......burgers are greasy and messy, and I'm not a fan of the "boardwalk" type fries. Burger, fries and a soda will set you back $10.....might as well go to Red Robin or similar restaurant. Haywood Jablomi ![]() Stimulating the economy, one slick deal at a time! Thanks for the heads up, and thanks to whoever uploaded the coupon.
Now on to the debate; here are my useless two cents: In-N-Out Burger > Whattaburger > Smashburger > Five Guys > Tommy's I have been to San Diego, CA plenty of times but have never tried - nor heard of -- Hodad's or Burger Lounge. I do not eat red meat often, but I like to try different places when I am out and about for the experience (and special treat since my diet is on the stricter side than most). E |

Why is it difficult to find this post? I just went today and my opinion. Definitely better then Five Guys burger. The SmasBurger burger is very good. Juicy and nice size. Do not get the smaller one for $4.29 when you can get the larger one for $5.29. My wife thought she was doing a good thing by saving money and I made her regret it lol. The fries are thin and greasy. We tried the Smash fries.. never again. Even though I dont go to Five Guys because I dont like their burgers, their fries are great!. It seems the mods hid this thread because I had to google to find it again. I will be going back again definitely.

In Sacramento we have Smashburger, Five Guys, and In-N-Out. That is also my order of preference. Of those three chains, I like Smashburger the best. Though I think that they are all okay.
I also like the fact that Smashburger offers fried pickles as an alternative to fries. It has been years since I have seen a restaurant offer fried pickles. They are a bit salty, but tasty. Smashburger also makes their shakes from Häagen-Dazs ice cream which is a big step up from the shake-mix that most fast food places use. Last edited by wjshopper; 08-06-2012 at 04:49 PM.. |

Hope they open a Smashburger somewhere in the South Bay in the near future. |

We went to our local Smashburger recently since they had a BOGO coupon in the newspaper.
All I can say is never again. The place was filthy. The menus that were available to look over were full of stains and some were actually sticking together they were so dirty. After you order you pick up your tableware, etc and go to a table and wait. The tableware was filthy. The floor was dirty with used napkins, fries, etc. The seats were even dirty and we had to wipe them off before we sat down. Makes sense if they could not bend down to wipe off dirty seats they certainly would not bend down to pick up obvious garbage from the floor- right? We were actually glad we were drinking water since that was paper cup territory which was probably cleaner than their glasses given the condition of everything else we saw. It made us seriously wonder how clean the kitchen was and obviously if food was handled properly. If they could not get basic dining room sanitation down how could they possibly do better in the kitchen. Scarey thing is they were not that busy and seemed to have plenty of employees... They just were not "overworking" nor did they seem to care we found the filth unacceptable.....The attitude was what was our problem complaining and actually asking for clean forks. We mentioned our experience to some neighbors and friends and sadly others had the same experience. They found the restaurant unacceptably dirty just as we did. As I previously stated never again- at least not at that Smashburger. |

With that said, my local Smashburger locations are very clean, so I think your poor experience may be location specific. I know the GM, managers, and cooks at the restaurant I'm a regular at... and they all take pride in making sure customers are satisfied. Also, as for the menus being dirty.... they do have paper to-go menus and the menu is posted in the front window outside the restaurant, as well as on the front of each cash register. I don't think I've ever touched a laminated or bound menu from Smashburger before, but by now, I also know what I want every time. Finally, I don't know what time you went... but you may have just come in after a major crowd. So while the restaurant may have been seemingly dead when you were in there, the place could have been very busy beforehand. That's not an excuse for all the trash on the floor, dirty tables and seats, etc., but just keep that in mind. I know that from 6 PM to 8 PM, there will sometimes be a line out the doors. A lot of people bring their kids and they throw stuff on the floor, spill drinks, and make things a mess. |
