Apple MacBook Pro 13.3" Display 4GB Memory 500GB Hard Drive $1,000 :( @ frys B&M starts 8/3

It's $200 off the normal Apple price. From what i've seen lately, Frys seems to be having this sale every 2 weeks or so.

It's still a good price for the latest edition MBP though

This is Apple's worst laptop, yet it is also their best selling one! It gives reason for Apple haters to still exist because it is such a big rip off. I suggest spending 50% more on the Macbook pro, which is over twice as powerful. Otherwise go with their Macbook Air if you want portability.

Worst laptop? Depends, worst is subjective. I think their worst laptop is the one that you can't upgrade two years from now. That would be the Macbook Air line and the Retina MBP. Just saying.

Good point I suppose. I wouldn't say upgrade, but repair, which is impossible unless you go through Apple.

Even then, I feel as if the rMBP can only be replaced, not repaired by Apple. In that case, buy AppleCare, then backup your data near the end of Year 3 and intentionally fry your computer. Odds are, you'll get a new rMBP from the current generation. I've had friends get MBA's to replace their white classic Macbooks simply because Apple didn't carry the part anymore.

you should read the article where they mention something about if you give a mac user something with less functionality but shave off a few ounces in weight, you will have a successful product. sadly 60% of the people who own mac products want something with soldered on processors ram no usb3 no card slots just a thin sleek piece of metal with a few keys and a display.They will pay even more for a model with just a little more soldered on ram and mark it up say 1700 and bam! people gotta have it!

I carry my laptop around when I travel. A few ounces here and there add up. The retina MBP is a full pound lighter than the unibody MBP (and about a pound and a half lighter than my 2008 MBP). I'm trying to debate whether the faster CPU and better display is worth the MBP over the lightness of the MBA. Saving some wear and tear on my shoulders is priceless.

Whether you need the extra juice depends on what you use it for I suppose.

You'd do better to take that pound off of your gut and keep the heavier computer.

Macs in general are overpriced because its turned into a fashion accessory. And with fashion, you pay for a particular look, which is why this tiny 13.3" laptop cost as much at a 17" with 1080p, Nvidia/AMD GPU, 3rd gen intel, and an ssd. But hey, if they can get away with charging the price and continue to make a ton of sales, why not right?
